jdm manual seat belt conversion!!!!!!

I need to know how people have done it thanx!!!

Bump.

always thought about doing this…:read:

Well, JDM and Canadian cars use the same stuff in terms of belts and such…

I’ve never seen how the American cars with power belts are put together - but aren’t the CDM manual belts just a large bolt on the top, a large bolt on the bottom, and the center part is the same on both versions (the buckle)?

And in thinking that, is the bottom not the same too? Wouldn’t you just have to take the B pillar plastic trim out, upper trim, remove the rails for the seat belts (how hard can THAT be? :|… ) and bolt the standard one in?

well the large bolt up top on the b-pillar is just a hole and is smaller than the bolt that the canadian belt uses… (first problem)

the large bolt on the bottom (anchor point) is not centered inside the carpet hole. (theres 2 previous bolts from the lap belt mechanism on the USDMs) you can use either one but it wont be centered. (second problem)

the whole seatbelt reel uses a different mounting point compared to the USDMs also. (third problem)

and last but not least the buckles will have to be changed and theres no hole for those either (fourth problem)

I have them in my car. Not a bolt on affair. You need to weld mounting points (high grade nut welded to a thich ass 2.5-3" washer or some sort of plate) for every bolt. Even the one on the pillar. I don’t think it is strong enough to just tap out and bolt in.

could you get me some pics it will help me alot thanx !!!my email ngl_cazares@yahoo.com

Pics of the weld points or pics of the parts everyone is talking about? I can get CDM stuff if you want it, but I can’t do much for the rest…

So in short - it’s a hell of a lot of work to get looking alright… and safe…

weak.

Sorry not tearing my interior out to get some pics. And I didn’t get pics when we welded them in which I should have.

Its really quite simple. For the floor ones, dirll out a hole in the floorboard larger than the nut. grind the paint off where your going to weld on the car. Weld the nut to the washer (works great if the nut fits inside the hole in the washer so it’s flush). Set the nut/washer in the hole so the nut goes through. That way it’s pretty level when done. No nut sticking up. Weld the washer (or plate) to the car. Do that for the bottom 2 mounts. The reel mount you need to cut some bars and weld them to the car drill holes so the bottom 2 screw points can bolt in (the top bolt lines up I believe). And on the pillar you can weld the nut/washer piece with the washer sticking out since there is enough room that it clears the pillar. After it’s welded. You take a tap and tap out the factory hold so the bolt threads into the new nut and old hole, giving it plenty of thread to screw to. And thats about it.

It’s not a hell of a lot of work. I’ve never welded. So I let a friend take care of that part. But since my car was at their body shop getting the whole car repainted (and I tore out all the interior cause I was swapping to black), it was easy since the insdie was gutted. It just takes some time cause you have to remove the interior and cover up the glass and stuff for welding sparks. Seriously we had this done in like an hour or so. Not including interior removal.

:werd: I’ve done this as well and I’ve been asked many times for pics. If you’re serious about doing it, the first step(after getting the JDM/CDM belts) is to tear out the interior. Once you’ve done that, what needs to be done becomes obvious.

Agreed. I have it in my car and it was obvious what was needed after I removed the seats and carpet. If it isn’t obvious after that then you should seek professional help.

I’M NOT BEING RUDE. This modification could be VERY dangers if done incorrectly and you should seek a pro if you are EVER unsure of your decisions.

Good Luck. I love my Canadian belts.

thanks for all your advice people !!! I know what to do its just that i wanted to know the diferent ways that people have done this and the diferent materials they used!!!

This doesn’t sound very promising. This should be pretty cut and dry on the process and the materials if you plan to value your life.

And since you couldn’t search here, but seriously if this isn’t common sense by now maybe you should shy away as it does require a good bit of welding and some minor fabrication.
