Jensen Head unit w/ 7" LCD

Finally got my insurance cheque after 4 months of waiting, and now i’m getting ready to redo my ICE in the teg.

Here it is

Anyone have any experience with either this type of HU, or Jensen period. I’ve heard they have a good name, but I’ve always used either Kenwood or Clarion (never again)

Pros/Cons/Comments?? FCM help me out! lol

I bought the Dual head unit (basically the same thing) and it was absolute shit, and Jensen is actually LOWER quality than dual…

It just looked and felt cheap from the start. And the screen doesnt clear our climate control. You have to pull the unit out in order to get the screen to a decent spot. Funniest part of it, is that mine never worked. It got power, but the LCD and the Touch screen never showed a picture.

My friend has the same unit I got in his Mustang and it works great though. Its hit or miss with these cheap HUs. I ended up just dropping the cash and getting a Pioneer, wish I saved myself the headache and went with it in the beginning.

Cool thanks for the heads up, and the quick response. Scratch that one off my list then

I wasn’t even thinking of the climate control part. Need something to either clear that, or something I can mount perhaps in the double din slot, and maybe mount the HU somewhere else. More research needs to be done, I guess.

Anyone have any recommendations? Main purpose of having the screen isn’t so much for video, but ease of browsing through mp3 cd/dvd’s. I can’t stand having to only see one song title at a time, when i’m just trying to find a specific song.

Lots of time to get this. Teg is still a month of so from being on the road, and still need to get some security installed before I install any ICE stuff. Not gonna go through the hassle of having everything ripped off again without a competent security system installed.

But you know how it is, when you get the insurance cheque in your hand and it’s already burning a hole in your pocket.

Recommendations would be nice, if anyone has any. Boxing day sales will be upon us soon…

I have the dual 7" flipout in my BMW, and it isn’t that bad, I think its actually pretty nice for what it costs, its just as nice as a few friends indash’s that have considerably more expensive units.

i have a kenwood n it clears the climate comtrols.but u dont like kenwood

No no, i love my kenwood stuff. It’s Clarion I won’t touch anymore…What kenwood HU are you currently using?? I need an upgrade from my KDC-MPV525

Duals will NOT clear the climate control. TRUST me, I had one installed :stuck_out_tongue:

The best bet is to get one of the non flip up screens, if you have the green, get the ones that flip down to allow CDs and shit, but dont have a motorized screen like the jensen and duals, if that makes sense…

is the kvt-617 modle

If you get a monitor get a double din radio. I have a kenwood ddx-6019 touchscreen dvd player. It looks so much better in the dash then a flipout

That looks like a half decent set up. Did you do the installation yourself?

How long have you had it, and how well has the touchscreen held up? I’ve heard oils in your fingers can make them go buggy, or not as responsive…

That’s pretty much a set up I’d be looking for. Only problem is where do i put cupholders now lol

I’ve had it for a couple of months and it works fine. Touchscreen works perfect. I don’t really watch it to often exept for music videos. I mainly use it for dvd’s that i burned music on. Each dvd hold 70 albums or about 1300 files and i have 7 of them and 3 old school hip hop music video dvd’s. Yeah i put it in myself. It was easy power, ground, remote, and the e brake wire that i tagged into the ground wire to be able to play video when driving

can you remove the face plate from thos?

I don’t think you can. I never tried to.

my flip jensen cleared the climate controls easily it all depends on how you far back the screen is

in my ex’s 2000 altima it didnt clear the climate controls either.
so instead of mounting the HU in the top slot i mounted it in the lbottom…
her car had a double din radio opening so it made it easy.
but with our cars idk. i dont really want a flipout in my car.

o by the way its a jensen and worked wonderful the second time around. (had to take first one back cuz it didnt work. exchanged for free)

oh and Herb that double din looks sick but some of the places i drive i worry bout my shitty old eclipse (first HU ever, got it when i bought my gsr and was used when i got it) getting stolen. so i would be more paranoid of that if i had it.

I’ve had the jensen flip-out screen for a year and I have come to regret it. I previously had the pioneer 9800bt (bluetooth unit) and it was much better (installing back later this week), I guess it was the fact that I wanted a screen just to show off but in sound quality it Sucks!!! oh and by the way since the unit’s one year anniversary it started given me trouble; like the whole unit blacking out with no sound, no picture except the power light on. I’ll say if you want to pay $500 for a P.O.S that will work for a year or less go ahead then. By the way the jensen won’t clear the Climate control unless the mounting kit is flipped to obtain a couple more inches in clearance.

you are right but can you see the screen clearly without having to bend over a little to get a good visual.

i personally have mixed opinions on the flip out head units…

I originally bought mine for the ease of searching through MP3’s and mainly for show.
After looking through all the various headunits made, very few offer a detachable face, which in my opinion is a must- if your going to shell out 500+ on a radio at least get one that will deter thiefs.

I bought a new blaupunkt ivdm7002 flip out for 649.00 from sonicelectronix.com about 3years ago which isnt too bad.(now its advertised for 559.00) From what i could remember shipping was fairly quick, however with most online products off sketchy websites- the warrenty will be voided unless bought from an authorized dealer (found that out the hardway)

the quality of the screen is good, and it does play mp3 cd’s dvds ect. It has alot of options such as EQ’s, soundstage, gains, and an input for a center channel, and the ability to upload background wallpaper pictures which is pretty cool i guess.
On the other hand; the sound quality isnt the best. it only puts out 17x4rms so id suggest maybe an amp for the internal speakers. the large obnoxious remote, which you need to scroll through the mp3 titles is a tad too bulky for my liking- its the same size as my optimum TV cable box remote. also the headunit has a brain which needs to be seperatly mounted, i put mine under the passenger seat and it fits fine, its just something you have to concider.

As for mounting the unit, as well as anyother flipout unit id imagine, it is going to have to stick out a little for the screen to completely clear. My first install job i had the flip out resting on the dash which eventually caused the motor to break from stress of it being slammed around on my dash when i hit bumps. (midwest electronics charged me 170 for the fix) Also now my volume button is a little broke causing the radio to lower itself randomly. (midwest quoted me for under 100 to fix)

IMO, all in all, if your looking for a cheaper flipout unit i’d highly concider this one. Several people i know experience issues with the volume knob on jensen radios months after getting theirs, i had mine for 3years and except for my first sloppy install job the volume button is technically my first issue. Also the jensen/dual units dont put out much more power if anymore power then this one.

basically what it comes down to is: if you want an awesome sounding headunit i’d stay away from flipouts… otherwise if thats not a huge goal, id concider this one over the jensen/phase liner/dual. and over the cheaper alpine/pioneer ones.
hopefully i gave some insight.

ill try and post better pics later this week.

I would never buy a flipout screen. Double din is so much cleaner looking. You can get the radio i have for less then $700 and it sounds great. Never had a problem with the touch screen and i haven’t used the remote since october.

i agree i like that style better for double din but if someone wants it theyre gonna have no problems taking it- where i live i cant have that.
