K&N oil filter

Has anyone used the K&n oil filter yet? I would like to think they are pretty good quality just as their intakes/filters but this is oil. these are like 9.99 compared to mobil which is like 15.

I’ve used it for years but I went back to OEM. The only upside to K&N oil filter is that it’s easier to get it off coz you can use a socket to get it off, besides that, nothing special to it. Go with OEM. You can’t go wrong!!!

Napa gold is one of the best filters Ive seen. I would recommend that OVER stock.

There’s a site somewhere that did a comparison of an assortment of filters.

K&N is pretty good, with good flow, but i think that it said the filtration was great but not awesome.

Purolator Pure One/Plus is also a good deal for the money, and it has really good filtration for the price. the bypass valve is well made too. They are also known as ProLine filters (same manufacturer).

FRAM in general sucked, because of the cheap plastic bypass valve that could get stuck open easily, thus negating the filtration medium. FRAMs are made by another company i forgot which, but they also make Penzoil and various “cheap” filters…just renamed. I think Honda USA uses those mini FRAM filters.

I’ll buy Purolators from now on. Mobil 1 is a very good filter, but you pay the price for it. Purolator is the best value/performance filter i believe.

There’s more to oil filters than just how easy it is to take off.

edit: here’s the site http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters.html

i’ve used a K&N oil filter for my last 4 oil changes, pretty damn good. haven’t used the mobil filter. might use that one with my next change, which now that i think about it, isn’t too far away. i’ll probably change the oil in a few weeks. i’ve always used Mobil1 5w-30 synthetic, so i guess i’ll mate the next change with a filter of the same brand. just for sh*ts and giggles.

the K&N has high quality filter media but it is not doing any thing difffernt that a regular $2.99 filter is doing on a street car. :werd:

so a waste of $$ imo… i def. agree with ez12a… purolators are the best filter for the $$ and thats what i use

ive used mobil 1, fram, some racing type filter from kragen, i forgot da name, but they all seem to be the same to me. i just stick with FRAM now… so much easier to take off. =)

JUST my buck 20

i just acquired like 8 hamp’s (and a set of ls mesh’s with tires FO’ FREE) from some guy my mom works with whose dc got stolen.
good filters?
i always used frams just because its the same as honda usa and I dont see them making much of a difference on a street car

i’ve used k&n’s whenever i can’t get oem because i can’t always make it to the dealership and they are only open 2 saturdays a month. only plus of k&n is like what was posted earlier, you can use a 1" socket or wrench to get it off and they use metal endcaps.

i prefer oem since they are made by filtech, which is toyo roki, which is pretty much hamp but more readily available than hamp. plus you get a free crush washer.

u can always get craftsman oil filter wrench, which also fits a 3/4 drive and still take watever u want

Around here the Mobil 1 oil filters are cheaper than the K&N oil filters (~$10 verses ~$13). Mobil 1 with full synthetic Valvoline has held up ok, brother wants to switch to AMSoil synthetic when time for motor rebuild since it sees redline so often.

I’m thinking of going with the K&N filter for my Tacoma since it’s incredibly tough to remove a regular oil filter, Integra has a much better position to unscrew the oil filter from.

…i think the tacoma is soo much easier than the teg, one reason, its visible, unlike the integra. enough area to put in the right filter wrench. u have no rooom in the teg
