I have an entry level Kenwood CD player in my car; the effin thing skips whenever I go over bumps… I had a local stereo shop install a new dash kit (the old one was broken and didn’t sit properly) and it got better but still skips quite a bit.
The guy at the stereo shop said that with that kit in my car that it shouldn’t skip…
Is there back strapping on it? There should be a 1/2" strip of thin metal that’s maybe a foot long attached to the car somewhere and the HU to secre it. If they didn’t put a backstrap on, you should take it back and tell them to do it. That probablly won’t fix the problem though, to tell you the truth, your HU just sucks. Just buy another HU that isn’t clarion, kenwood, or sony and you won’t have a skipping problem. Good luck
yeah true that. Either you get that strap or you get the whole dash kit and use most if not all the pieces that are in it. Most car stereo shops, when they install it for you, only use the dash piece with the little din to install a HU but most come with little brackets that can screw into the sides. Now, if you look at the back of your HU of where it’s supposed to install in your car, you’ll notice there is a screw or a hole for a screw back there. If you used all the pieces in the kit, then you can screw your HU back there and most likely will decrease the bouncing.
Most stereo shops do not give you back everything a kit/HU comes with. When it comes to the kit, they just intall it and throw the rest away. When it comes to a HU, most of the time they throw away the keys that come with it so you can’t uninstall it yourself…which is a big pain in the ass…
Aslo, if there isn’t any back strapping and the shop won’t do anything about it, you can pick some up at home depot. It’ll be in the plumbers section. It comes in like 25 feet rolls. It’s basically a thin flexible band of metal with holes about every 1/4". It costs around $7 for a 25 foot roll. All you do is screw it to the back of the HU. than bolt it to somewhere to the car.
You can also buy a few big sponges and put them under and around the HU.
All of this should help, but it won’t totally fix a kenwood :). Good luck man.
