This is actually for a friend of mine. I know this was on here a while ago but I can’t find the post in a search. He has an auto 4 door (90 ls). When he shuts off the car he has to sit there for a few minutes before the car allows him to remove the keys. What causes this? Is it easy to fix? Anybody know how much the part(s) cost?
Second his cruise control stopped working, nothing broken that is obvious. Just quit working.
Also the tachometer stopped working on his car too. Every other guage functions properly. I don’t know if these are related or not which is why I sort of mention them together. He says he checked fuses etc but he is sort of loopy at times so I’m not sure if he has or not.
Trying to encourage a new member here. If anybody has any idea of how to fix these or any info or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Joe
I can help you with your tach problem. I had the same problem when I got my GS-R, you dont have a good connection on your ignition wires. My tach didnt work and when it did it was bouncing all over so my ecu never got a good rpm reading and my VTEC would not work. All you have to do is take off your distributur cap and rotor. Under the rotor is i believe 4 wires. Put some of that spark plug goop on it i forget what its called. I found this in the teg tips section, thanks g2ic. If I hadnt found this trick out HnA automotive wanted 80 bucks for a new wire plus labor. took me 89 cents and 10 minutes. Laters.
If it’s any consolation, my '91 GS sedan’s keys get stuck sometimes, but it’s only in colder weather. And my cruise control is very fickle, too. Sometimes I have to finesse the CC button to get it to come on, other times it comes on and flickers off immediately.
If you’ve got an automatic, the most likely reason why you can’t get your keys out is because of the shifter. You should only be able to pull the keys out when your shifter is in Park…sometimes the shifter cable is loosened from usage over time, so it doesn’t go fully into P. You might need to adjust the shifter linkages a little. Good luck!!!
