Ok we broke my knock senser taking out my motor a friend gave me one. We broke it putting the motor back in. Bought a used one for 50.00 ever sense then I get a soft code for knock it only throws a code when crusing between 2500 & 4500 never any lower or higher. I can drive the car hard & it never throws a code till I slow down & cruse. If I just drive the car normaly it will throw the code within 15 mi or so. Soft code for the ones that don’t know is a code that resets every time you turn the car off. It will through a code I can push the clutch in turn the key off turn it back on check eng light goes off. Any ideas?
I’m not up to speed on how the knock sensor or it’s codes work yet, so maybe you can tell me. Does this code mean your knock sensor is not functioning, or does it mean your motor is knocking to much and the computer can’t retard the timing enough to make the knocking stop? If you know the answer to this question, you can probably see where i’m going with this.
I know for a fact that my motor is not knocking. When I drove with no knock sens I got a hard code that stayed on till I reset the computer so I don’t think that it is a bad sens.
ive got the same problem with my b16a. i replaced the knock sensor and it stopped… untill i got about 20 miles from the shop then my CEL came back on again.
Does yours come on as soon as you crank your car? Mine does not.
it didnt at first. when my car would get to operating teperature and when i was driving is when it would come on. if it was at oparating temp, even if i reved the engine it would not come on as long as my car was not moving. now my code pops up when i start my car because i had my timing advanced.
sorry to bring this back to life but i’ve been searching for this for MONNNNNNNNTHS!
what a life saver! i got a used b17 put in after i blew the first one and i have the exact same symptoms as NC-B17A! How much does a new knock sensor cost, and did NC-B17A ever fix his?
also, i have AEM cam gears and not exactly sure if they were tuned correctly, they came with the b17 i have now. could this be part or all of the problem?
My knock sensor was loose. When I got my car up on a rack I could turn it by hand. So I just had to tighten it up.
i haven’t delt with it before, could you tell me where it is if you’re still online tonight. if not, i would have found the answer by tomorrow, so thanks alot! ![]()
Take the oil filter off to have alittle more room. Look above where the oil filter was & you will see a round plug right under the intake manifold that is it. Mine was green.
Be careful not to overtighten you can break the knock sensor with too much force.
thanks alot man, i’ll try it out here in a few minutes and get back to you guys.
