from experience or are u just talking out ur ass?
i hope you read the whole farnorthracing one, i read it start to finish and while i didn’t understand some of the more complex things, he did say the reason he classifies all others as “crap” whether he’s tested them or not is because its a safer route, its the easy way out but better than saying “hey they might be good” with experience like his i trust what he says and i’m going with koni/gc because of the reputation it has here. its been on so many g2’s it should of came stock lol
and the ones i’m buying are 375 front and 550 rear, he said they are very stiff, i honeslty get confused with spring rates you see some at 375 others are 8k and i’ve never researched it enough to understand why the hell they can’t just use the same measurements.
The problem is you’re not understanding why the Ksports are crap.
Kcraps ftw! jk.
Dude, I have had the Koni setup and it’s great. There’s a reason why everyone is recommending the koni/gc setup. They don’t need to explain themselves. Do a simple search and you will see. It has been talked about over and over again. For complete coilovers, I’ve heard great things about PICs. Ksport/FF and etc all come from the same place. There’s a reason why there are so many complaints about them.
lol after i read grassroots… got tired of reading so skimmed through farnorth… must’ve missed it… i guess im the lucky few with ksports then cuz im still rockin it 2 yrs down the road
lol matty i understand, or atleast i think i understand the point ur getting across… brands like koni has tons of hours logged in R&D… and Ksports are just copying designs off another… i get that… i guess i will end this note by sayin i got a good set of copied crap? that good enough? lol for $500 it’s served and still is serving its purpose for me and as i’ve stated earlier. i will be picking up the koni/gc set up for my gsr. and i will compare between the two. i’m am just waiting til im fully recovered so i can start wrenching on shit again doctors orders: lift nothing over 5lbs. no bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, excessive exercise, and a whole bunch of other shit until you are cleared. so as soon as that happens i will give my comparisons between the koni/gc and the ksports
ntegrals: i wasn’t looking for recommendations, i was simply stating my experience with ksport and asked leo why he thought they were crap. i did not state that koni/gc set up was bad. i just needed some input on his thoughts. if i told u buy item A because they are great but gave you no explanation to why they were great as opposed to item b. would u buy em?
for the most part this has been a good thread everyone is talking in an educated manor which impresses me lol. other car forums generally just start fights in threads like this. god i love g2ic haha intelligent conversation FTW
just talking out of my ass…
driven several different cars in my area with Ksports. 2 of which were DA’s. I was not impressed. For a cheap setup, they’re “okay” at best. But don’t try to put them through any real performance use, as they’ll fail on you fairly quickly. One of said DA’s has already replaced his Ksports with a new set of Ksports. He is getting ready to replace them again. He’s mad that his “good coil-overs” have f’d up on him again. He’s just gonna buy some Tein Basics and call it done. He’s not looking to be dumped, just a nice stance with good handling. Had he not bought the Ksports at all, he could have saved himself about $1200 and got the Tein’s and done it right the first time.
I love my Koni/GC to death. But, after I swap in my new motor, I’ll be redoing the suspension for a 100% track suspension. Nothing “street” about it. In fact, the coilover setup I’m going with isn’t even made for a DA. Or an Integra in general for that matter. Well, the fronts will be, sort of.
Too much speculation
The Koni vs KSport argument is pretty silly. The ONLY attributes you should look at are:
IN BUMP:
LOW SPEED DAMPING
HIGH SPEED DAMPING
IN REBOUND:
LOW SPEED DAMPING
HIGH SPEED DAMPING
Next:
- LEARN TO READ DAMPER PLOTS
Figure out of you want your car to be more of a racecar or boulevard cruiser.
Keep in mind that MORE rebound damping is not always best. Too much rebound damping will cause the car to “jack-down” until you are driving on the bump stops.
Essentially to go fast, you want to reduce transmissibility and load fluctuations on the chassis, for a specified roll, pitch and heave stiffness. Design your car with an approximate roll gradient in mind. Such as with my VT Formula SAE car, we are designing to have the car roll 0.9 degrees per 1g.
For a FWD autocross car: tune the car’s natural frequency to about 2.2 Hz and set your damping ratio to a value greater than 1.
For a fast FWD car, set the rear damping to high values, and then begin to pull back the damping until transmissibility and load fluctuations are reduced.
BUT first learn more about dampers. Get shock plots of Koni’s, Ksports, PIC’s, Motons, whatever–and tune from there. Damper tuning is an iterative process, and changes to the dampers are often made on the track to suit conditions. I.e. a parking lot autocross or an airport, or VIR.
In terms of my bias, I run Koni’s and eibach’s springs, and that’s more due to damper plots and my own needs. Koni has a long standing reputation of making quality dampers, but that does not mean that other dampers are crap.
Before more non-sense is posted, read this:
http://www.neohio-scca.org/comp_clinic/hand_out_reprints/damper%20_2003_handout%20.pdf
Learn about dampers—please—and go represent fast g2’s at the track.
What mixed reviews? People asked for dyno plots multiple times from the Ksport rep that trolled that thread, and not once did he provide any. He offered for people to take a tour of their facility, but I never saw any shock dynos, none. That right there should tell you which direction that company is geared towards…
UCSlugRacerX- Thanks for that link!
oh fuck this… u guys are making me read too much shit… i give up lol hangover owns me.
mr.penny i thought there was a shock dyno on that link
A+ on that last link i plan on reading it at some point lol. and yeah i’m done with reading stuff thats over my head, i know how many people here use koni/gc and that must mean something
[QUOTE=imcnblu;2125603]Koni/GC user here. I’m dumped, and have no complaints. Ride is epic, and handles like a champ. Great setup, best bang for the buck you can get.

how dumped were you and what spring rates were you using?

This(minus ksport opinion)
I have Koni/GC SP3 with tophats all around and I must say this suspension brought new life to my car. I’m running them about one turn from soft setting and i’m able to hug corners at a considerable speed and make sharp turns without any issues. I’m also at a pretty decent drop i’d say about 2.5-3 inches and haven’t had a problem yet. I purchased these about 9 months ago and daily drive the car. I wouldn’t have chose another setup.
I have Ksport rear lca on my 91 teg. the fronts are stock. I have Eibach pro line springs on OEM struts for now and the rear tends to sit a bit lower than the front. Cant find out why. could it be from the front LCA’s being stock? Rear struts are new.
