leaking front axle...help!

Hi!
I’ve had my integra RS (1993) for 2 years now. I’ve recently replaced my front axles because the boots we’re busted. Now, tranny’s leaking oil on the passenger side. I replaced tranny seal 3 times (once with genuine Honda seal), and replaced axle 2 times and still leaking. I am beginning to think that it’s my tranny that’s leaking and not the axle itself.
Any thoughts??

Are you sure it’s leaking by the axle? The tranny drain plug and fill plug are pretty close to the axle shaft input.

Yeah. I’m certain it’s coming from the tranny. But I don’t know if there’s some kind of seal in the tranny itself that would need replacing. Cause I’ve tried replacing everyting external.

Try replacing the snap ring on the inside (tranny side) of the axle. The axle is held into place by the snap ring that is near the end of the axle shaft. If the axle is not snapped into place tightly the tranny will leak oil out of the seal. If the axles have been removed a few times that is your problem. Per the Helms manual they are supposed to be replaced every time the axles are pulled or removed.

They might have sold you the wrong axle (too short)?

mine does the same thing too. this weekend i took out the passenger side axle and put in a new output shaft seal in the transmission, i think i put it in a little too far because it is still leaking like it was maybe more just like it was with the original seal in there. I am going to take out the axle again this week and i will reposition the seal better and look at the clip at the end of the axle itself. I will let you know if anything works.

did you already check to see if it’s the transmission case that’s leaking? then again it could be a bad seal or when who ever is putting the axle in must of nick the seal.

Not to scare you or anything but in the manual I have there is discussion about the transmission case becoming porous and allowing fluid to seep out through the aluminum. I had never heard of that and hope that I never have it because the only solution is to replace the case. It would have to leak a hockey sock full before I would do anything.
