leaves blowing through vents

Ive noticed that Ive been getting lots of these little pieces of leaves and shit blowing through my vents lately. I figured there was just a bunch of shit in there so I blasted my vents for a while and it never stopped coming. Now my fucking car is just covered with leaves and shit and it just got detailed about a week ago. :bang: Switched from cold to hot and it got even worse. I dont have A/C. How the hell can I completely clean all the shit out of my vents and prevent more from getting in there?? I let it blow on high for a good 10-15 minutes and the shit just coming out little by little.

that actually happened to me wayyyy back in the day.

i just let the hvac blow for a while and that seemed to get rid of everything

check under the hood may be?

I’ve got the same problem. You need to keep the cabin air intake free of leaves so they don’t get in there in the first place. If there are leaves on the outside of the car, clean them off the intake before you start the car. The previous owner of my teg didn’t do that. I’ll be installing a/c soon, so I’m hoping I can solve the problem by cleaning out the heater box when I’ve got it apart.

One thing that has worked to a certain extent is to close off all the vents but one, then turn the fan to max. Then the little bits of leaves come firing out the open vent! Do that with each vent and it should help a little.

I left the vent on high for like another 5 minutes and shit was still coming out. Today in traffic my girlfirend was getting hot so she turned on the vents and it looked like confeti (sp?) caming exploiding out of my vents. :bang:

Where is the cabin air intake located at?? Besides turning all the vents on high individually to clean them how can I take them apart to clean the crap out?? My interior is covered in shit and is going to take atleast 2 hours to clean so I dont want to add anymore if possible. All the shit in the vents has to be from the previous owner because I park in a garage and there is never really that many leaves on my car when its out.

Right where your windshield wipers are, you should see a slotted area. If you’ve got a shop vac try sucking the crap out through the slotted area near the wipers on both sides. If you aren’t getting much, turn your car on, put the vent to max, and then in addition to having it blow on max, put the shopvac onto blow mode and blow through the vents from the outside. This should blow out any shit left in there. Mind you, you’ll end up with a lot of shit in your interior this way, but you’ll be gueranteed that it will all come out. You could also rig up some sort of bag system on the vents on the inside so it doesn’t blow everywhere. I think I explained that, though It could be confusing. PM me if you can’t understand my poorly worded english!

I’ll try that in the morning and see if it helps.

I have another question though. If leaves can get in that easily, what else can?? Shouldnt there be a filter or something in there?? What stops water from coming in the vents???

leaves and shit

pull your cowl (black plastic cover) off and shop vac the shit out of that area, also you can clean your blower motor and fan out withe the shop vac, put your vents on fresh air and stick the vac hose down towards the fan, I only had to do this once when I bought the car, no probs since, good luck

The same thing happened to me after I’d left the car parked a couple of weeks while on holiday: the first time I started it, the vents blocked immediately, not only with leaves, but also lint & cigarette butts!!! :wtf:

I found this especially weird since I’m a non- smoker!!

Turned out a mouse had built a nest in my blower/fan during my. :gunleft:

Naturally, I tried to take the easy way out first: turn the fan on high & then pick crap out of the vents using a hooked paper clip. After doing this about 10 times with no real progress, I relented & removed the main ventilation duct under the dash (in front of the console) to try to diagnose the problem.

With the duct out, I turned on the fan & blew remants of a demo’ed mouse home all over the front of the cabin :argh:

This having failed, I finally removed the fan & took off the housing to find it esentially plugged full. I figure the mouse home was somewhere upstream of the blower & it got sucked into the fan ASA I turned it on. I cleaned everything out of the fan & housing (breaking two of the blades, of course- thank the gods for 2 part epoxy!!)

7/10 on the hassle scale (fiddly worked getting the duct back in while you’re jammed in the passenger footwell) but it worked: my car had clear sinuses again!! :ohyeah:

To prevent a re-occurence of “mouse house confetti”, I pay my cat a handsome sum to live under the car.
