I’ve noticed that my car is noticeably less responsive and doesn’t accelerate as ‘effortlessly’ when the temp gauge is halfway, as opposed to the first 10-15 minutes of turning the car on.
I know that a colder engine should maybe run a little bit better but I don’t know why my car seems to progressively get more sluggish as it gets to normal operating temperature. With a cool engine, the car drives like new: the acceleration is brisk, the engine is smooth and quiet and it will coast for a long time if I let off the gas. But once it’s warmed up to halfway it doesn’t run so smooth; I have to press the gas pedal a little harder and rev higher to get the same response as when it’s cold.
The car has 155000 miles and I was thinking of replacing the radiatior to hopefully fix this, as well as replacing the timing belt and water pump.
I’m also using a short-ram intake so it’s possible that the hot air from the engine bay is causing slight power loss. Would that even be noticeable?
Any suggestions?
