lightweight flywheelQ?

need people input using a lightweight fly. like during shifts does it drop rpms real fast or is it pretty good, its for my 92 gsr and when i shift id like to stay in vtec range but i herd lightweights drop rpms to much. what you guys think of them?

Just get a street lite and not a pro lite flywheel

i have a 8lb in my ls and i love it its matches to a stage 3 clutch and i have had no problems with it at all.

so drivability is still there. im just afraid of rom drop, i herd the heavy stock ones keep the revs up due to spinning mass, but lightweight slow down as soon as you push the clutch so the revs drop like a brick in water

Prolight, 8.8 lbs, love it, you will too WAY streetable, dont let anyone tell you otherwise lol

And yes your rpms will drop like a rock when you shift, BUT it does not keep you out of vtec range, it actually allows you to shift better by dropping the rpms fast enough that they are matched to the next gear better than normal where usually the clutch engadgin would force your rpms down to the next gear, with a lightweight, as long as you dont take forever to shift it drops it nicely to the next gears rpms.

I agree with pirate252, have the 8.8lb ACT Prolite in our stock '90 RS motor and it drops just about right for changing gears (although I would like it to drop a little faster…), stock flywheel takes way too long to drop the rpms. Excellent street driveability in our ~2300lb Integra RS, whether it be stop and go or normal driving. 1st and 2nd gear accelerate noticeably quicker than stock when you step on the gas though, and 5th gear has good enough pull to not need to shift down to 4th if you want to really pass someone at interstate speeds.

I run a Prolite flywheel in my car and its great i love it and would never think to go back.(90 GS) but i would also recomend to compliment your new flywheel with a shortshifter so you could shift faster as well!!! so much better and rpm matching for downshifting is great its so much smoother and sounds sweet cuz if you mismatch the rpm the motor will catch up faster and is not as harsh of a jolt when you downshift!!! DO it you’ll be happy aswell!!

would a stock clutch be ok with a 7.5 flywheel?

I just installed an ACT Prolite 8.8 flywheel in my 91 Integra RS with the stock clutch and while I was worried about driveability issues (RPMs dropping too quickly), my worries were unfounded. I had read about some people saying that the RPMs drop so quickly that the engine would almost stall and I am not seeing any of that. The RPMs do drop more quickly but not to the point where there is any driveability issue in my opinion. The mod does allow for faster revs especially in first and second and does help all the way up through fifth gear on the highway (when you hit the gas, it pulls a lot better than it used to). One thing I noticed right away is when you start the car and the fast idle kicks in, the revs shoot up trying to get the idle speed up expecting the heavy stock flywheel and it takes a second for the FITV to figure it out and compensate bringing the fast idle down to where it needs to be. Not a problem but kind of like the car is “surprised” every time you start it. Overall, I am very happy with the mod and was very happy to find that there is no downside to going in this direction.

Fidanza 7.5 here with my B18A and Exedy clutch, joy to drive and no problems after 60K miles. The top three threads have been on flywheels asking similar questions and getting similar answers.

i just installed the fidanza 7.5lb flywheel competition stage 1 clutch in my 95 gsr and i must say i’m in love, the acceleration is there and if you learn how the clutch, the rpm ‘thing’ will be great. it doesn’t drop like you think it will unless you are a full fledge granny shifter. i love it :D:D:D

I have a 7.5 lb flywheel. When I shift I do not take my foot completly off the gas. When I do that the rpms drop slower and allow me more time to shift when driving around town. all you really have to do is tell your foot how fast you want the rpms to drop and it will do it. but it will take some “hand-eye-ear-foot coordination”. Now it seems like I do not even have to think to do this, I just do it automatically. I almost forgot I had a 7.5 lb flywheel

What would be the best flywheel for an Exedy Stage 1 clutch?

:werd: What he said. I want to use an Exedy stage 1 or 2 clutch as well.

What about a Type R flywheel? I’m really leaning towards the Prolite, what w/ all the good vibes; but I heard the Type R flywheel will work too.
:getsome: :manual:

like i said i’m happy with my setup with the 7.5lb flywheel, while it’s personal preference, i’m going to say 7.5 or 9lb flywheel.
