lightwieght rims

looking for some lightweight 17’s…wuz lookin at 5zigen’s, but i don’t know how light they are…i care more about weight and strength than anything else…

when speaking of Rims - weight and strength dont go together

theyre inversely related.

That made absolutely no sense.

Strength has more to do with the materials used and the manufacturing process than anything else.
If you’re worried about the weight of the wheel, why are you going with 17’s? Any 17" rim is going to be at least 5 lbs heavier than a 15" rim exactly like it. Also it would probably tend to be a little weaker since there’s more distance between the hub and the outer rim.

So decide what you want – go or show?

this is not always true. overall design, fabrication process, metal characteristics…etc… will have an affect on both weight and strength. Just because a wheel is light does NOT automatically mean that it is also weak.

The way he said it, if weight and strength are inversely proportional, a 5lbs rim would be way stronger than a 20lbs rim. THAT’S why it made no sense

Mugen rims crack…

Centerline RPMs are 17s that weigh 13.5 lbs apiece I believe. A forged wheel is going to be the best way to go for light weight and strength.

i wouldnt go any bigger than 16…and the SSR comps are really light and look really good…just cost quite a bit of money…

If you have money then Volk Gram Lights are great or anything SSR makes.

re:

what size rims are good for performance…i’m not trying to be flashy…my goal is to set my car up for excellent handling versus the bling…obviously you all can tell i don’t know shit bout rims…so just toss some info…i’m not too worried bout cost, but i don’t want rims that are gonna crack or get f’ed up…only said 17 cuz i thought they wouldn’t be too big, yet would have substantial traction over 15’s cuz they’re 7 wide…appreciate the help…

depends how much power ur puttin down… My friends turbo teg had some light weight 16’s and they spun for days… Now he has some 17" C2… more traction, higher topspeed, handles sooo much better.

If you could get some lightweight 17’s that would be the best of both worlds. If you go to Tire Rack you can see what the SSR’s will look like on youre ride. They also have the specs on the wheels. If you are looking at lightweight 17’s you can get wheels that weigh under 15 lb.s but if youre gonna go with 16’s you can get under 12. And traction shouldnt be an issue if you have good tires depending on what youre goal is(1/4 mile or auto-x)

As i have been here for a while now and read through many posts in my day I have come to the conclusion that you add little or no information to many posts…why is that?

Cause he is on crack…

Mugen rims are known to crack while being used on the street… pot holes etc.

I’ll let my car speak for my “crack headedness”

It’s not all mugen wheels. It’s just some. I’ve abused the hell out of my cf48’s on my daily driver hitting crazy potholes and no cracks yet. I think you are thinking of the rnr’s. Those were made of a soft metal. They were designed to be used only for track use.

Yeah thats it the RNRs… my friend used those… then got rid of them since rota came out with knock offs…

they do make 15x7" wheels which i think would be the best of both worlds since the best tires (azenis, etc.) require the 7 wide and the 15 means they are still light. another issue with rim size is if you are upgrading your brake system. then you have to consider offset as well.

Yeah, if I were you, I’d find some 15x7’s or even 15x6.5’s.
Not hard to find lightweight, pretty strong rims in that size. Konig Helium, Rota (most of their models), etc. And those are some of the cheapest. If you have the money, get some Volks or Racing Harts!

I have had the MUGEN MF10L,s for over 1 1/2 years and they are still in perfect condition.
No cracks here.
