limited travel, swtich to GC/Koni only option?

Hey guys, so Ive got Skunk/Tokico Illumina combo on my DA. It bottoms out sometimes so I wanted to check and see if the upper balljoints were hitting the inner fender well and come to find out, they’ve got almost two inches clearance.

BUT, my tokicos are about 1 inch from bottoming out with no bumpstops so thats the culprit. The only way to get around this without raising the car is to switch to GC/Koni combo with GC top hats right?

I would also like to get a Revo camber kit and go lower but Id like to have some suspension travel. Also I don’t have a problem cutting for the upper balljoint clearance.

The car is a daily driver only and I don’t race it ever, and I’m just checking to make sure that I have my options correct… raise the car or switch to the GC/Koni.

Thanks guys.

come on guys, someone has to have some input.

I have skunk2 coilovers at their max rideheight. I bottom out more than wanted as well. I just threw some 205/55/R15 tires on, they add about 1/2 an inch of clearance but rub without a camber adjustment.

when I said bottoming out I meant the struts were bottoming out, not the car hitting the ground. Tire size wouldn’t change that inch of suspension travel I have.

you can run the GC top hats with coilovers and shocks that are NOT koni / GC.

Another option would be to run different shocks (shorter ones). Like ones for an EF, EG or DC.

I never thought of that, didn’t realize struts from other cars might work.

Also I read somewhere that GC top hats only work with GC coilovers, I believe it was on the GC website.

I did some research on HT and I’m going to extend my top hats to get some more travel rather than buy GC coilovers just to run GC top hats. Ive got a spare set of top hats so it wont hurt to try it out.

The DC fronts are longer than DA’s…

I can’t verify that the GC top hats will work with all shocks, however all of the Koni shocks I’ve seen look to be the same diameter as any other honda shock I’ve seen… So theoretically as long as the shock body of the shock you’re using is as wide or smaller you should be fine. Also, from what I just readon H-T they should work for more than just Koni’s.

As for the DC front shocks being longer than the DA front shocks… care to verify that info?

Straight from Gordon Benson at Koni NA Headquarters… here are Koni shock lengths:

Stock shock lengths, fully extended and fully compressed:
MAX MIN
90-93 Integra
8041-1200 Sport (F) 474 368
8041-1201 Sport (R) 516 371

89-91 Civic
8041-1166 SP4 (F) 395 297
8041-1153 Sport (R) 486 343

94-01 Integra
8041-1152 Sport (F) 433 308
8041-1153 Sport (R) 486 343

As you can see:

fully extended DA front shocks are 41mm longer
fully compressed DA front shocks are 60mm longer

Now it is possible that koni uses slightly different sized shocks than stock, so please if you have info that contradicts what I have posted… post it… I’ve been doing a lot of research on shock lengths recently as I ran into a problem w/ my Koni RACE shocks being too short and the more info I gather, the better.
