Look what was next to me in the carpool lane Friday

… Oh just a Mercedes 300SL roadster. Old(er) lady and man driving in rush hour in the bay area. I had to snap a pic. If you dont know the car, google it. Est. value = $700,000+ and you probably wont see another driving down the road! Wow. I thought the tailgaters were a bit funny - if they knew the worth of that car they would stay FAR away (because if you hit it your insurance would say SOL!)

Nice to see someone actually driving one.

I guess they (this car) have been seen around the bay area over the past couple years getting groceries, running errands, etc. Crazy if you ask me, but cool!

My dad has a '55 300SL gullwing, he’s on some 1000 mile drive right now with it. I think it was up north, I’ll have to ask…maybe this 300SL was part of that whole thing.

Wow your dad has some dough! Good for him for driving it!

Whatever bro, my insurance would pay up to 1/7th of the replacement cost before they told me to shove it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it just the rarity of that car that makes it so expensive?

That and the fact it’s a motoring icon. Some consider it the first supercar…or at least the first breakthrough that inspired them.
