looking for cheaper alternative to Oddysee PC680 Battery

as the title states, I’m looking for a cheaper alternative to the Odyssey PC680 battery. I found out about a company, Gruber Power Services, that offers a cheaper alternative to the battery, and has basically identical specs, but the problem is that I haven’t been able to get a definitive part number for the correct battery. I found this cross reference chart, and need to know if my assumptions are correct before I shell out the $ for this battery. Apparently, the Odyssey and Gruber batteries are seemingly manufactured by the same company, EnerSys (or so I’ve read, anyway) so I’m assuming if all the specs are the same, I imagine its essentially the same battery without the “name” brand on it.

also, are there any cheaper alternatives for a good battery box for this thing? a box designed like this one from PWJDM?

going to be mounting the battery in the same location as pictured on passwordjdm’s site as well. I can’t see spending $160 on a box. It doesn’t have to be a “really nice” box at all. It just needs to keep it in place. I’m going to be painting the box to match the rest of the car so its going to be pretty subtle when its done.

as always, thanks in advance.

subscribed. sorry for the double post. meant to subscribe so i can know when i get a reply, because I need this info asap.

Look for a Hawker Genesis 16 EP made by EnerSys same battery as the Odyssey without the orange case. I can purchase locally from an electronics wholesaler for $75.00.

As far as a case the threaded bolt holes are already in the Integra frame rails in that location all you need to do is bend up a 2.5" - 2.0 " Aluminum strap with some holes in the correct location and tighten it down. I have had mine in that location for many years and you can just see it in this poor quality picture, sorry it is the only one I have at present where you can see the battery.

If you want to pay for a case, you can spend your money on some thing like this; http://www.gotbatteries.com/index.php?m=search&fID=30Z680A1

if you can, do you mind getting a close up pic of what your box/mount looks like.

is the Genesis battery good? $75 is pretty good. Where can I find the correct one? I see a lot of G16EP batteries with a lot of different specs, etc. which one is the correct one? also, the prices I’m seeing are all damn near the same price as the odyssey :frowning: place to find one for less than $100 shipped?

also, i noticed that they are “off road only”. what makes them illegal?

for a “bad” picture that bay is pretty sexy haha, i doubt the batteries are illegal, just might not be spec’d for DD use, i have heard people say in the cold they lose charge very fast, only reason i haven’t picked one up yet, it’d be fine in the summer but it gets really cold here during the winter and would hate to have a dead car at work lol.

hey, is this “Deka replacement” battery any good? its “better” (according to some people on HT) than a Gruber, Genesis, and arguably as good as the odyssey, but at a substantially lower price.
