my friend has a 93 rs and the other week it overheated.it lost all the antifreeze.he refilled and drove for a week…fine.now everytime he drives the antifreeze is leaking from somewhere.we changed the thermo today, no help.temp guage shows normal but after u drive it is leaking from some where.it looks like somewhere under IM.i thought maybe coolant temp guage is screwy, but where is the coolant leaking from?no white smoke out exhaust and no coolant in oil?couldn’t be head gasket could it?
any thoughts? help greatly appreciated!
Download the Helms Manual to help you locate certain coolant lines that run in and around the Intake Manifold. It sounds like a hose leak. At the same time, inspect all coolant hoses just to be sure. Other possibilities could be the water pump. I would check that last though.
I would recommend an oil analysis test be done to check for contaminants in the oil (ie. anti-freeze, water, silicone, etc.). It is very cheap ($23CAN), and results will be mailed to you within 2-3 weeks.
thanx for the reply.i used the helms for my 91 to work on his 93 today.i thought it would be a good place to start.is there an overflow of any kind for the coolant? i was under the car and couldn’t see any leaks,it’s hard to tell cause it runs everywhere ya know.

Yes, there is an overflow coolant reservoir. Every G2 Teg is built with one. It should be on the driver side beside the windshield wiper reservoir and powersteering pump reservoir.
You might have to degrease the engine, run until coolant flows through system, and then recheck where the leak is.
under the IM there are a few coolant hoses that will jus develop small cracks in them from being old… (thier jus rubber hoses remember)… anyways i had the same problem and it turned out it was a small S shaped hose that had a crack in it… like 3 bucks from the dealer, it will make it easier if you disconnect the larger hose right above it aswell. a bit of coolant will leak out and down the side of the block when doing this so have someting under the engine to catch the coolant. all you wil need is some pliers to loosen the clamps for the hoses and your all set.
i had a antifreeze leak and i didnt find it until i was taking the stock air intake off to put a CAI on. antifreeze was squirting everywhere because a hose from the intake manifold to the engine had cracks in it. i dont know if thats common but you should look.
