I recently drove my car home which is about a 130 mile drive. I left it there and was out of the country for almost 2 weeks. When I got back I drove around town and was overheating when stopped. It would cool back down almost instantly when I started driving. It then overheated almost to the H on the gage while I was driving so I stopped and let the car cool down. I then checked the coolant and was able to add over a gallon to the radiatior. The oil was also low and was just below the lower dot on the dipstick. I filled the oil and then drove back to school (130 miles). I left this morning to return home and found my oil was again very low and was able to add a half gallon or so of coolant. On the drive back after about 100 miles my speedo stopped working and then I got a check engine light. I checked the code and it was a 17 indicating vehicle speed sensor. I assume the speedo thing is totally unrelated and is just bad luck that it happened the same time as all this other stuff.
I don’t notice any burning smells or smoke from the tailpipe. I am wondering where all this coolant and oil can be going? I never had any trouble losing either fluids before. It’s like I let it sit while I was gone and then came back and had this trouble. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.
check your head gasket, do a compression test. check for the usual leaks (cam plug, oil pan, etc)
Where did you add your coolant? You’re not supposed to put it into the radiator, rather, the coolant reservoir…
“Not supposed to put it in the radiator,” what are you talking about?
By the way, I just noticed today my CEL is coming on and the code is also the 17, speed sensor, I have no idea what that is so if you get anywhere with this please post some help, thanks.
let ur car run and check the engine bay and bottom of the car to see if your having any leaks
