my car seems to like to lose oil somehow, there are no spots on the garage floor and I dont have any of the blue smoke outta my tail pipe…I went from 5w 30 to 10w30 and it seemed to last longer…I drive the car pretty hard sometimes, but it shouldnt lose the oil? any ideas of what to check???
u are burning oil probably. have someone drive behind u and see when u are driving hard see if smoke comes hard or when u shift see if smoke comes out.
check under you hood you might be spitting a little out of the valve cover or cam seal…while you drive…
if the bottom side of hood has oil on it then that could be your problem…hope it helps.

burning oil usually means that the piston rings are going right? I know I have some oil burning under hard acceleration. Its quite annoying and makes my car look “cheap and old” to me. There not really a way of fixing this without changing the rings right?
Chances are, you are burning it. Time to look at your spark plugs and look for heavy signs of oil deposits, do compression test, etc. I would recommend possibly using 10W40 during summer climates, or 5W40 during winter climates/year-round. Before you do though, mark down how much oil you are adding per km. Then try a 40wt. oil. and compare. If you’re still burning a lot, then it’s time to get that engine checked and see what future problems you might have.
I leak a little oil every now and then. There are a few spots under where I park. Don’t know where it’s coming from, but as long you check it often and keep it a quart low/full, it’ll be fine.
Let’s face it guys, we have 9-12 year old cars, they’re gonna use some oil.

That leak should be easy to spot/fix. I would get it looked at, you might have a serious problem waiting to explode.
