I remember someone posting a while ago about installing a lower tie bar when you have ST(Suspension Techniques) sway bars installed. I believe someone said that certain ones would fit with the ST sway bar on and certain ones would not?! Could someone refresh my memory and let me know which ones would work?? Will the OBX work??? Or does the ST swaybar get in the way??
I could not install an OBX bar on my 2dr with the ST sway bar. I belive it fits on a 4 door with the ST.
Did you use a 90-93 spoon bar or 94-01 spoon bar. I went to their website but I couldn’t find it for our cars.
Hey cspeed,
Thanks a lot!!!
Why wouldn’t the OBX lower tie fit with the ST sway bar?

the one for the 94-01 dc chassis should fit fine.
Here is a list of rear tie bars per application that I made up. These are all confirmed and on g2’s…
COUPE
Tenzo – Does not fit with ST swaybar.
OBX – Does not fit with ST swaybar.
Focuz – Fits with ST swaybar.
Cusco – Front bar installed in rear with ST swaybar.
DC – Fits, not sure on fitment with swaybar.
Spoon – Fits with ST swaybar.
SEDAN
OBX – Fits with ST swaybar.
If it says it will fit with the ST bar, it will obviously fit with the stock one…

ARCHIVETHIS
OBXR will fit if you change thee bolts holding thee bar to thee mounts.
I havee donee this.
But you havee to assemble thee bar first, THEN put it on the car.
I have 1 mm of clearance betweeen the two bars.
E-DA9 could you please post a pic of your OBX bar installed.

are any of these completely round? Meaning are they similar to the shape of the Spoon rear lower ones?
anyone have an answer for the above question?
Just bumping to maybe get pics from E-DA9 and get itec311’s question answered.

The actual tie bar being round makes very little difference in terms of clearance issues with an aftermarket ST sway bar. The issue is with the tie bar’s endlinks and how the associated pivot connecting bolts itself clear the sway bar. Most tie bars that use separate brackets (DC, OBX, Tenzo, etc) for mounting on the LCA pivot bolt use very large headed hex bolts and nuts to conect the bracket with the actual tie bar. It’s this large bolt head that doesn’t clear the sway bar. What needs to be done, which is what Max did, is to get a reglar bolt with a smaller head on it so that it doesn’t hit the sway bar upon installation. This will allow you to use these tie bars with these mounting hardware characteristics. The Spoon bar falls into this catagory, but because it has a unique mounting bracket that offers greater clerance with the sway bar (as seen in cspeed’s pic), this is not an issue for these bars. For some reason, this trait only needs to be applied with the coupes, where as the sedans, don’t require this moddification:

Now if by ‘round bars’ you meant the tie bars that mount by on-axis bolts with pass-through holes for direct mounting to LCA pivot bolts, then there are some choices there also (Focuz, Skunk2, ZSpeed, etc). Simply for ease of installation, it is preffered to use one of these bars if running with the ST sway bar. This is because there are no mounting brackets, nor extra bolts used on these bars that can get in the way or cause any real clearance issues with the sway bar:

Best of luck.
where can you find the zspeed bars?
