ls has is knockin. rod or valve?

i think my integra spun a bearing its the original b18a1 with 220k on the car and the engine. now i hear a very hard knock but only at 1500 to 2500 rpm. if it were a rod that was knocking wouldnt it be all the time or can it only do it at a curtain engine speed. it does not do it at all above 3k - 7k idk what to do. i just got another ls b18a1 out of a 93 and thinking on rebulding it and throwin it in. i just want to know if this engine is trash or needs a shyt load of work to get it back up. i have not taken it apart yet but will soon.
sorry if this is a noob question. also 7 months ago the timing belt popped while sittin at 4500rpm. took the head off had it boiled, resurfaced and had a leakdown test. it passed and when i first put it back on it had a pretty nasty valve tick. and after a month or two of driving it it started to develop a hard knock, it sounds like its coming from the head and not the bottom end. tell me if you need more info. need help please, i think my best bet is to do a valve adjustment and check the timing. is the timing belt supposed to be somewhat loose? sorry for life story

Engine knock doesn’t sound too good. They normally start off by not being too noticeable and then get worse as time goes on. But I would try to do a valve lash adustment first and see if it gets any better. But Ive never really heard noisy valves sound like an engine knock.

that was my guess and it did start off not noticible and did get worse, and yes im leaning torwards rod knock and myself have never heard of the valves sounding anythinglike a rod knock. what confuses me is that is only at a special spot u know?? i did a valve adjustment today and had it double checked by a friend that has done this many times and the valves got alot quieter but that hit is still there. 6 months ago the timing belt snapped at 4k rpm. got head work done and slapped it on. then this showed up a month after i got it back up. the car has 220k on it…

okay so i started it up today and tried to find the problem. got a friend to hold it at that spot and used a stethascope to try and find it only when he was holdin it there for about 20 seconds it bogged down really bad so i told him to let off. when he did it got to about 300rpm and went to normal idle. only when it went to normal idle it had that knock followed with sounds of metal scraping against eachother…this suks. so tomorrow in the morning im dropping the oil pan and visually inspeacting everything…anyone got some ls rods i can purchase from them??? i have a crank and another block so i need some rods to replace the fucked ones.:bawl:

I would just get another engine. You can find them for less than $400 alot of times.

i am thinking about it. but i dont know yet. dont really have much money due to bills a heavy ticket and a shitty job. i need to get this car running asap though. my daily just hit 240k two days ago. and its showing signs of failure. trying to make it last at least a few weeks though. going back to work for discount then i will make some bank
