LS stock engine, how long will it last?

I’m having a hard time deciding whether to get this car or not. I don’t know how long the engine will last, which is my biggest problem. It has 160k already on it, the owners maintenance record is good and the car runs fine. In your guys opinion, how much more life do you think is in it? I’m thinking about doing a GS-R swap on the LS but not anytime soon because I don’t have enough funds. I’m thinking of driving the car until I save enough money for the swap. What is your guys opinion? Any information would be great.

As long as everything is up to record then it should last you another 200k miles or more depending on how you drive it easy or hard through out its time.

I honestly think as long as you really replace every single coolant lines hose there is in the bay and behind the intake manifold. Do and complete tune-up like, fuel filter, air filter termostat replace, spark, wires, caps, rotor etc. check rad for flow or clog and replace it or just replace the cap. Basically all these things would wear and tear and expand as it age so if the last guy havent done it tho car is driving excellent its your time to do it. As far as the starter and alternator goes it can wear down and the module (parts) inside need replace/repair thats about it for a non starting car. Same for the timing belt, waterpump replace it if u feel in need of if you dont know condition of it. For oil pump they dont tend to go bad but if u feel u want to replace it while you at it go right on.

All in all spend at least 200-300 and keep it in shape. Oil change at least 3000-4500. Expensive brand oil also helps protect the temp on over 400 degrees etc so its really up to u what u want to grab. I used mobil 1 it has protection up to 400 degrees i read it online

Dont worry the car will last but you may exprience some problem here and there down the road. I am currently running 324k miles so far and i am only eating about 1 qt oil every 1200 miles at least. Its still running strong i aint gonna lie.

I have a few pictures on here of my car and you can see how clean it is and the bay. Pretty much tells u depends how much YOU LOVE YOU car lol… Good Luck!

The motor will last a long time, it’s the transmission that might not. Mine went at 204,000 miles. Still worked kind of, but had so many holes in it from exploding that I could not keep fluid in it haha.

 thx guys. My other questions is also about the engine. What’s the best way to find out the condition of the engine before buying it? My friends and I have some doubts about the owner of the car, he’s selling it for cheap with 160k on the engine. My friend says the best way to find out is to do a compression test but I’m not familiar with that method and kind of sounds complicated. What do you guys think is the best aproach to answer our questions?

bump

well when i first brought my car i didnt know its past i brought it from a old guy that had put an ad on the paper it had like 149K… once i got it i pretty much treated like shit and it still ran strong . i just kept up with the oil changes and tune-ups … so if your just going to daily drive the car it will last you the only problems you might come across is like the battery, starter, alternator… good luck with your choice

267689 over here

mine has over 280k

Its in its prime.

i gots 166k and intend on adding 100+k.

this isnt some old domestic that you would seriously consider selling at 150k.

mines got 227k and still running strong
i love beating up on newer cars and the owner saying
what do you got in that thing? and i say one of your car payments beeeatch
older cars kick ass

think of it as a woman… if you treat her right… then she’ll treat you right.

just make sure you keep up on the maint. and you should be good up/past 200k.

compression/leakdown test is the BEST way to find out whats going on in the motor. You just need the tool to do it. I also highly recommend a pre-purchase inspection (it’s worth the 50 or so bucks) to have it done. take it to a mechanic and he’ll tell you everything thats wrong with it.

dont worry about it too much, the b18 is a strong engine. i bought my teg with 193k miles and sold it at 250k miles. i used to take raod trips in it all the time. i ran that car hard for the three years i owned it, i abused a bit i must admit. the new owner still drives it everyday intown and on roadtrips. the car never smoked and ran great all the time. the b series engines are built really well.

i heard somewhere here that a g3 integra went 700k mile without a rebuild and is now sitting on a Honda dealership floor?
