b16a motor, '91 LS transmission, ITR flywheel, CTR crankpulley, chipped for switchover @ 4400, i like mine. second gear goes to about 65-70mph, and 3rd gear goes to about 97mph or so.
shifting @ 8200
i think it pulls pretty good, it’s long, but it gets up there pretty fast.
dont know if this is faster then normal complete motor & tranny b16a setups…
ys1 is a casing, it could be a ys1 for an ls or the jdm ys1 b16 tranny.
He won’t fall out of vtec, but even though he lands in vtec its too low in his powerband to make a difference. Compared to the b16 tranny, which drops him in his powerband, making the car accelerate faster. The longer gears are no good for a high reving motor that makes its power up top, because when he shifts its going to take longer for him to make the upward climp on his power curve to achieve maximum potential, it will happen every gear. The b16 tranny is better than the ls tranny for any motor, including the ls.
I like it fine…LS tranny with Exedy Clutch and Flywheel. JDM b16 with Unorthodox pulleys, ITR Cams, AEM Cam gears, fuel rail and intake. Skunk 2 Intake Manifold, HKS exhaust, NGK wires with Greddy plugs.
I can beat 99-00 civic Si’s with it. Those 92-93 GSR’s still got me though. DAMN YOU DAVE!
cause as a b16 tranny on a b16 would redline 8200 @ around 90mph or so? a LS would take it up to 100mph @ around 8250rpm or so…
it has the longer gears, and top end is great… freeway, this setup is great… imo…
i dont see any downfall in this. i have a itr flywheel and ctr crankpulley, so it might’ve made the difference in acceleration, but so far, i can beat ep3 easy… (newer si’s w/ the weaker k20a)
ya ep3’s are slow as hell. ok so my b16 with no vtec i only lose to 3rd gen gsr’s on the freeway with the same mods and me shifting at like 7000 by like a car after we get into 4th for a bit.
I was running my LS (YS1) with my B20VTEC and didn’t like it. I’d shift and drop below my crossover point. It was hard to keep the car in the powerband. I’m currently trying to find a short geared YS1. I’d only recomend using it as a temp tranny until you can find a short geared one.
i have a switch for my vtec and i can feel it lag when i hit it at like anything below 5000 rpms. i also have a chipped ecu. 5000 vtec and 9000 redline. granted i dnt take it that high, but still i feel a lag when engaging the vtec any lower then 5000. and to HONDAH22 the reason u get beat by 92-93 gsr’s cuz they have shorter gearing.
Yeah i know…its a guy from MD that i see at all the meets and i keep getting more power parts, i.e pulleys and ecu and cams, and he keeps winning. I pull on him and he always wins cause of that tranny. My vtec engages at 5000 and goes to 8500. The only problem i have is 4th and 5th gears. 1,2,3 and are fine to me. I have great acceleration and power. I know my times and hp would go up with a b16 trans, but i dont have the funds to spend on that and buy a new clutch plate.
B16 VTEC tranny hands down. The LS is nice, especially when it comes to freeway driving, but the VTEC tranny is just so much quicker with the shorter gears. The LS gears take long and when I shift @ 8000 it drops to like 5500. Whereas the B16 would rev up quick, shift @ 8000 and drop to like 6500 - 6800.
