would this be a good move or bad move.
i want know cause i think my gsr tranny is about to go and i dont know how easy it will be to find another one!!
bad move. the gears on the LS tranny are longer. The gears in the vtec trannies are shorter for 2 reasons:
-
shorter gears are generally put in sportier cars. You gain acceleration and how fun it is to drive it. The trade off is that when you’re on the freeway you’ll be in higher revs and this means worse gas mileage.
-
the shorter gears on vtec trannies allow you to stay in vtec all the time if you shift at redline. Depending on the LS gearing and vtec crossover and redline points on your specific setup it might cause the rpms to drop low enough for you to get out of vtec for a few seconds before it kicks in again. I’m not 100% sure if this would happen by putting an LS tranny on a stock gsr or not though.
I have ls gears on my b16a right now… I have to say it really sucks… it runs strong on the highway from like 50-115 third gear is so friggin long… but it is nice merging onto highways… also at like 80mph I am only around 3500 instead of 4400rpm. But if you want your car to perform better then I you don’t want it…
Anybody else have any opinions on this. I too am planning on installing a B18C but kind of low on funds. In addition, I am not a redline shifter but want to have the power there when needed.
well… i hate to do this… but…
i claim first dibs on that tranny if you dont/cant keep it.
