If you use the Z10 girdle, which is actually lighter than a stock GSR/ITR girdle (and just as strong, not to mention a lot prettier looking ;)), you can use your stock main cap bolts, and don’t need to take anything to the machine shop. it’s built specifically for the LS block, using GSR/ITR tray, pickup, and pan.
I’m doing the ITR block girdle because everything cost about 160 brand new whereas the z10 girdle cost a whopping 289.00 Not worth it in my opinion. Doesn’t really matter about looks too since its all covered up. But yes it is a pretty piece of metal!
i think, with the ITR girdle, that there’s some machining that needs to be done…which = more $$ down the road (unless you have the lathe and tools and skill to do it yourself, in which case hey more power to ya!! :D)
LS Vtec Conversion
whats up guys? i have a B18A block and a complete B16A motor but i want moe displacement. i have read the threads about these two motors and how the B18 isnt good for revving. can i build the B18 with longer rods and shorter pistons? all i want is a good street motor and not a rev to the moon motor. i know torque is what wins on the street. who has done this conversion on a B18A? i will be dropping this into a G1Teg. i will be using ARP studs throughout. thanks

You can’t get longer rods and shorter pistons. If you did that your only option would be to get a stoker kit from crower or build it yourself. But I wouldn’t do it, seems too risky.
What you can do is get strong rods like eagle (cheapest) or crower (expensive) and get ARP rod bolts and ARP head bolts. Then you’ll probably want to increase the compression ratio a little bit with high comp pistons.
You also have the option of getting a b20 block which has 84mm compared to the 81mm b18 block. This is the only way to increase displacement. I have the b20 block because I didn’t want to bore out my b18 block because weakening of the b18 block. The b20 is from factory and is stronger than the b18 block.
Your going to b putting into a 86-89 Integra? It might not fit without modifications. Not sure though. Those integs used the Z series engine, which there is parts for too. But then again I think the JDM g2’s used the z series engine too.
The b18 is fine for revving but make sure you build the engine right and don’t half asz it. Get the rotating lower mass balanced and put a block girdle on it as well for added lower strength. Rod bolts are REQUIRED too, don’t use factory or you will have a blown engine. I’m not sure how high your going to rev, but just do it right and u’ll have a sweet motor.
Do a search for LS/VTEC since you have the b16 head. You can also check out www.crvtec.com
Oh and here is the ITR block girdle converted for a LS engine. http://www.diyracing.com/B20girdlemod.html
