hey guys im new to this site and doing my first ls vtec swap in my 92 da but im not really sure how to go about the wiring and ecu im not very good at that stuff so hopefully someone on here can help me out im putting a 99 civic b16 head on my b18a block in my 92 integra so i know the heads 0bd2 and the cars 0bd1 so how do i go about wiring it up any adapters i can buy to make life alittle easier also not sure what ecu would be best to use thanks
No suggestions ?
You should only have to use/swap is your OBD1 fuel injectors. And maybe swap your IACV. TPS and other sensors should hook right up. The only real wire you are going to have add is the vtec, which is A4 on the ecu. Everything else should hook up to your OBD1 harness. Whatever sensor doesn’t hook up, just swap with your OEM OBD1 sensor. I’m also assuming that you already have a chipped ecu, right?
im not to that point yet i just finished painting my car so ive been putting it back togather i was thinking about using a p30 head but not 100 percent sure yet what would you suggest for a ecu ? and thanks for the advice so far
Any OBD1 P28 “clone” ecu will do. It’s really all about the tune.
well i was thinking about getting hondata s300 from what i hear its pretty good
Unless you’re building a track-monster pushing 800+whp, money can be better spent elsewhere than on Hondata. If you have a local person who sells Neptune, I would go that route.
Get a P28, chip it, get it tuned, and be done.
Its easiest to get a vtec sub-harness to deal with the ecu wiring (RyWire sell them, eBay sells them, etc… just make sure they’re oem plugs so they fit correctly)… there will be two pins to the ecu for vtec, and one for the knock sensor (if equipped, or it can be disabled in the tuning software), and one pin for IABs (if you were going the GSR route, they have butterfly valves in the oem manifold).
I just did the two plugs for vtec… disabled the knock and didn’t have to worry about IABs since I wasn’t running a GSR manifold.
The GSR head will yield slightly higher compression, the B16 head will have slightly better airflow… Both are great choices.
In what shape is your current motor? I wouldn’t lsvtec a motor unless it checks out with a leakdown test and compression test.
Also the LS bottom end isn’t made to run at high RPM like the vtec motors… so either re-inforce the bottom end by getting ARP/AEBS/GoldenEagle main/head/rod bolts, or keep it stock and ONLY REV TO THE FACTORY LS REDLINE.

Its dated, but still has great info… my only quip is, he suggests a non-vtec headgasket… my builder recomended a vtec headgasket… I went with the vtec gasket and have zero leaks and great compression… id go with the vtec unit if I were you.
well the entire block and head are being rebuilt from top to bottom im still gathering all the parts i want and ill probably be sticking with a b16 manifold maybe an aftermarket unit like a victor x or something like that stage 2 cams wesico pistons polished crank im hopeing it will work good but everyone says its all in the tune so i wanted to make sure i went the right way with the ecu etc
B16 manifold has to be used with the B16 head, as the bolt pattern for the GSR is different than ITR/B16.
And yes, its all in the tune… do you have someone local who you plan on having tune your motor? If so, chat with them about what they prefer, and why. I’m just saying there are cheaper alternatives to Hondata that will do the same thing.
well i dont know of anyone around here that does that stuff no place that ive heard about anyway
Google, man.
http://teknotik.com/blog/ holler at them and see if they can steer you in the right direction.
If you don’t know of a local tuner, who is actually BUILDING the motor?
im building the motor along with the help of my father when needed hes built lots of older v8s but no honda engines but theres nothing we cant figure out if we run into trouble
