I was wondering what kind of lsd i should get for my boosted da. I was very impressed with the mfactory lsds. They had two types a helical or plate, whats the difference between the two? Also if i were to get the plate lsd what would preform best a 1 way 1.5 way or 2 way? Thanks
have you looked into kaaz?
Yes i have i found one on craigslist for $500 but i think its scetchy buying one used. Its also a clutch type and from what ive herd they dont have the smoothes engagement.
K20a.org has all info on the type of LSD there is if you ever want to search you can do it there, if not maybe honda-tech has the info…
I have a Cusco in mine. It is awesome! Although it almost feels like a welded diff in parking lots and such, shutters like a mo-fo when turning at low speeds
When I had my RSX The big thing to put into them was the quaiffe, or the wav trac was holding up really well.
My friend had a Kazz in his 240, and that car hooked up nice.
I had the mfactory helical put in my tranny when I got it rebuilt by synchrotech. You really can’t even tell its there. (Maybe they ripped me off.) The tranny feels really smooth.
I have an mfactory helical LSD in my gsr cable trans with synchrotech carbon coated synchro’s… I had a friend do all the work. I have a NA jdm gsr with some bolt ons and I can feel the even pull under full throttle. I cannot wait to see this thing under boost. They are rated to with stand up to 1100 hp’s.
The plate type LSD is used mostly in road racing and will be a little jerky for street driving as the plate work every time you turn the wheel under power (shutter when turning at low speeds). 1.5 or 2 ways means how much it will engage on deceleration. One way does not engage on deceleration. If you are going to drive on the street and some strip I would use a helical type LSD.
Thank you for that lesson.
It really comes down to if your going to daily drive or not, disk type don’t handle well for daily drive on streets.
I had a wavetrac LSD and it was awesome, my car hooked well in and out of banks.
My exit speeds out of turns also went up, no chirping or loss of traction.
If you still can’t make up your mind then for the same price get a OEM type r LSD not a sir, it’s smaller.
It’s OEM reliable and worry free.
Any helical will work well. A wavetrac is a helical that gives some traction when one of the wheels is fully unloaded. Like from hitting a FIA curd in road racing taking (one of the wheels off the ground.) A type R lsd will not fit our drive gear you will also have to change to a type R drive gear.
you will need the counter shaft to make it work with the type r finale drive / ring gear.
I was supper happy a the wavetrac when I had it. It was better than the stock sir LSD.
I would buy it again, just make sure you get the newer models.
So what are the drawbacks of a helical? Plus advantages of a plate style LSD? As far as I am reading so far, the oly difference is a clicking noise at slow speeds…
Disk type are very aggressive at low speeds and don’t like to turn corners. Unless it’s a track only car then your best off with helical gear type.
