Maaco for kits

I know Maaco does not usually very good paint jobs, but would they do a good job just paint maching a body kit that was already on the car? It would be real cheap is the only reason Im asking.

ya, it would be cheap, but im sure the paint would chip off in no time.

id do it…and ya it would be hella cheap. If you scrap a lot the paint would come off in no time. If you take it to them at least do a very good job sanding it off so the paint sticks good.

places like maaco and earl sheib are typically very good painters, they have guys who shoot paint all day long, so chances are they’re better than you would be, but probably not as good as a pro at a real body shop who has been doing it for 15yrs.

the difference in quality comes from low quality paint, minimal prep work, and less attention to multiple coats, sanding and clear coats like with a really nice paint job.

I think getting it done at maaco might be a good idea…as long as you:
-buy the paint yourself, get good quality stuff and get it color matched to your car, then bring it into maaco and have them spray it
-do the prep work yourself. Most kits come primered already so prep work may be non-existant, but it depends on your situation.
-get them to do the best paint job they offer. find out how many coats they use, if they sand at all inbetween any of the coats…

Then find out how much all that is gonna cost and compare to getting it done at a real body shop.

I called macco today and asked them if they would shoot with my paint instead of theirs and they said “no we only use our paint which is dupont and we feel its the best.”

Did you get a price from them?

I asked them how much to paint a fender and hood, then he started saying “its not going to match the rest of the car that has been exposed to the sun. You need to bring it in and let us give you an estimate.” So i did not get a price from them, but when in the fu( |< have they started using “quality paint” like their shite is untouchable. They will NOT use any paint other than what they carry. Thats BS unless its an issue with ruining their guns.

i guess everyone is a painter these days

If I was a painter or even thought I was a painter I wouldnt be asking Macco to shoot my hood and fender…

I work with a PPG certified shop, this is true, BUT not always!

Tell him your foot doesn’t match the size of his ass, but even YOU can make it fit

I got my car painted there twice, once with just a front bumper, then with the whole kit and shaved emblems and antenna and door handles. They shaved my emblems and antenna and it was PERFECT. I got the second to best paint job they offer and best prep job they offer. the total price was only about $700 with a 4 year warranty on peeling cracking fading or anything like that, they repaint it for free. The paint used a dupont which is not as good as PPG but still very respectable. My paint looks beautiful. when i tell people maaco painted it people dont believe me. Ive been happy with them.

Hey thanks. At least I found one person happy with their work.

Do you have any pictures of your car the parts they painted and all so we could see? I have thought about it taking it there my car is Rio red and was going to have them do it Championship White for the full paint job including doorjambs and trunk jamb only thing they wont is the engine bay it was going to be about $1256 for the whole thing

I would also like to know about the door jambs and the trunk jambs, want to get mine painted a different color next month. Anyone else have their teg painted another color? Did they do the jambs?

yea i got my car repainted last year and when they painted the side skirts they had to do the jambs as well because the bottom of the kit went under the door, they did a great job and my doorjambs look brand new again with a nice coat of shiny red paint.

Was your car red to begin with? Did they do the trunk jamb? Where did you get it done? Sorry for all the questions, but I’m hesitant of getting another color if it isn’t gonna look good all around.

If you’d like to check out the car im talking about that maaco has done for me go here:

This is not as good but you can still see it:

Just copy/paste them. I know these arent a G2 teg. Its my 1990 Honda Prelude Si. My girlfriend has a 92 integra that will be getting painted at maaco come may. Ill post pics of that as soon as i get it back. This whole prelude was done including door jambs with the best paint and prep for about $950.

My car was red to begin with so i didnt have them to the trunk jambs. I got it done in Middletwon NY. Ive heard all maaco places differ in quality to so im not sure if where you get yours done will be as good. but it could be better as well you never really know.

i have used them a couple of times myself,if you prep body parts and take them in,you get a very good product for the money,i went to the one in san diego,i guess the guy is into hondas,he did my fender and spoiler for 50 bucks, under the table.with my gsr rebuild im going back.im confident it will be cheap and look pretty good.if your really worried like i was go to the painter and talk to him, tell him you’ll give him a tip or hook him up and,im sure he’ll spend the time do a good job for you.its what i always do and it works, they dont make much money there and see so many cars,a little motivation helps =)

i didnt read the rest of hot92teg’s post when he linked to pics, n i was looking at the pic, then i was thinking to myself… “these arent tegs… maybe he did a prelude conversion” hehe, nice paint job though. and nice prelude. do you guys know if price vary’s on paint color also? maybe like, semi-flat black
