i kind of agree with this i had my car painted by them quite a while ago… they do okay work…and i could create a whole thread to explain how you could do it yourself for the same price and have it come 100 percent professional which what I choose to do at this point.
but anyway maacos are franchises so they are all different, and even if you find one that is decent i have noticed a few things, they tend to employ not so experienced sprayers so sometimes you see orangepeel and a small drip, they dont take as much care when tapping, they dont much body work, often they wont use a 2 part primer/sealer at all(one reason why its so cheap) and the biggest difference is they use an an integrated clear which really looks great at first but isnt the kind of job that can shine like a car with a nice 3 stage clear and be protected to last a long time
ok then, i’ll fork out another grand and go to a local shop, done the best work i’v ever seen. but average around 1000-1500 a paint job. i guess i could rent a both and do it myself.? im iffy though.
jdecks, you could always tape the whole car yourself, do all the prep work, body work, etc.
Thats what we do (when we want a job well done). My friend and I flip cars so we have had over 20 cars painted at the same macco, and we have a guy that actually does a good job.

that would def work also… Like i said though the only down fall to that is the integrated clear and the quality of paint they use which wont last as long and give you that show car paint job…but if i was flipping cars like you guys thats exactly what I would do, maaco is great if you just want to boost the market value of the car or have a junker look alittle nicer
Yup, and for an extra $149.99 (or something like that) you can have them add another layer of clear on top of it all. That is what I intend to do when I get my car painted this coming spring!
ive actually done both of my cars there,
when i got my integra i purchased it off of an older lady. mechanically was perfect, but the body definatly needed work.
there was a minor dent/rust spot on the right passenger door, the paint was faded and the rear quarters had the typical rust hole.
for 1200bucks, i got the “presidental” paintjob, with the better prep package, they fixed all my dents, shaved all the emblems, and took out all the dings.
this is a pic from about a month after the paintjob. (november 05’)
this is it now, nov07’
this is my beater car, before my prep work and the 1100bucks spent at maacco geting it painted and sanding the orange peel off the roof and trunk and pillars
this is a pic after the paintjob lastyear 06’
i will post a more recent pic with some mods once i put my springs on nextweek
how long is it b4 the color starts to fade? a year maybe? if you get one of these paint jobs and intend to keep your car for a while i would get white hence u cant tell if it fades
sexydb1, longer then a year- as u can see from my photos.
IMO if concidering a maaco paintjob, id go there a fewtimes and check out some work they’ve done. thats what i did before doing it. You do get what you pay for. Its not a perfect paintjob, but for 500dollars you definatly get your moneys worth.
I had an accident in my mothers 03’ saturn and brought it to the same maaco (mountvernon, ny) that i got both my cars done and had them do the repair. For this they obviously didnt use the same paint and prep as they would for a shitty $150dollar paint package and it does look like a factory finish. I would not recommend getting the “signature” paint package from a maaco because they are about the same price or more then a local body shop.
so: Shop around, see some work before you buy, and talk to the shop manager.
jcohran, if your refering to the presidential package or anyother package for that matter it does include prep work, however if you can, i’d take off as much stuff as possible. I brought my car over there on steelies with the moldings, lights, ect. removed so this way there was minimal overspray.
my old DA was done by Maaco in phx. good paint, bad clear. clear started coming off in about a year (b/c of the AZ sunshine) but i had a 5 year warranty on the paint so they re-sprayed it. The one thing i can say is they have a nationwide rep to hold up so service was better there than at your joe schmoe body shop. overall i was happy with the paint for DD’ing the car.
my girlfriend just got her white truck painted black at maaco, did everything for 614$ including the door jambs. IMO it’s a pretty good job, and will possibly going there to get my pant done, some dents, and a little rust fixed :>.
i’ll post pictures of her truck when i get a chance
