So my a.c. has been broken for the last 6 months cause im basically leaking freon.I located the leak its near the compressor. Im not sure if the leak is coming from a faulty compressor or bad o-rings. Basically my question is, can my a.c. compressor leak ? And if so from where?
Please I live iniami its really hot
it’s cheaper to replace the o-rings and try that first than replacing the compressor
well sure they can leak. it’s a pump. it’ll have a housing with at least 2 halves. typically, a uv dye is injected into the system. you would then use a black light with proper glasses to view exactly where a leak is coming from.
in your case, i’d agree. replace the o rings. just match them up at the parts store. i don’t even think you need neoprene, as your system is probably r12. but get the neoprene anyways if you can. they’ll probably cost less than 5$ total
but make sure the system is completely evacuated before disconnecting any lines! just hit the schrader valve on either of the 2 ports for a split second to see if there’s any pressure still
if there’s any pressure, it’ll need to be evacuated by a professional. especially r12
I have changed the orings twice already .still leaks sounds like a hissing sound near the compressor.
Can the ac compressor unit leak from anywhere ?
absolutely could.
Do u know where it can leak from ? I removed the compressor and I couldnt notiice any leaks.
You need to take it somehwhere and have it checked for leaks. They will definitely tell you if its the compressor or not. Keep in mind you will need a recharge and 134a conversion kit also since nobody keeps r12 anymore. Just call around to some local shops and dealers and see who has the best price on diagnostic and such.
My car is 1993 so think its r134a . I know it hisses from the ac compressor area .
if it’s been hissing for 6 months, i doubt that’s the ac charge. it would be depleted loooong before that if you could hear it
It leaks a new can of freon in 30 min. I have been without ac for 6 months.
have you done anything suggested in this thread yet? you seem to just be rpeating yourself… we get it, youre hot, youve been without ac for a while. people are telling you how to fix it and you havent responded back with an upddate on any of their suggestions
Mofo stfu. Im asking only one simple question. & I never found an accurate answer. So if u don’t have anything nice to say then STFU. And blow your self
alright alright. let’s just figure this out. to find EXACTLY where the leak is coming from, first, you need to brake clean the area completely. then inject uv dye into the system, run ac, and look with black light and uv glasses. or just roll the dice and replace the compressor.
or, since you likely don’t have the equipment to find the leak, bite the bullet and take it to a shop. there’s no shame in that. that’s what they’re there for.
and the thing about cfc’s is they can leak through extremely small spaces. not as small as hcfc’s, but still small. you won’t just see it with the naked eye. not if you can hear it hissing
Thank u very much I really appreciate it. I have tried my hardest . One thing What are cfc and what is hcfc and where they located ? Thanks welfare
cfc=chloro-flouro-carbon. what r12 is comprised of. this is the compound which destroys ozone
hcfc=hydro-chloro-flouro-carbon. what r134 is comprised of. much safer for the environment.
your car probably uses r12. the cans you buy at autozone probably aren’t comprised of cfc’s. but likely just compatible.
