I think there is waaaay to much generalization between “x” motor vs. “y” motor on G2IC. Please next time before we get into another debate please consider the following:
Cost factor: no matter what anyone tells you, everyone has a budget. This is the main reason why out of 10 people here who post about “sleeve” this and “turbo” that, one might actually do it. Also, when comparing a b18a motor to any other motor, you must realize that to use a different motor other than the b18a requires you to purchase another motor(GSR boyz excluded). When factoring hp/$ you have to factor in the cost of the other motor.
Engine swaps: I do not understand why when people swap a b series motor that is somewhat stock into their car when they get dissappointed that it isn’t 10x as fast as their b18a was. A stock b16a, b18c, b17a, or b18a is not that fast relatively to what their potential is. Any of the mentioned motors can be made to outperform the other, however the potential of some of these motors are greater than others given the same modifications and maintenance are performed. Given that said, whether you have the $$ to find that potential of the motor you just swapped is another issue alltogether.
Comparison between different setups: to generalize a particular motor setup simply from your experience, be it personal or not, is illogical. Every setup is different. I can almost assure you that no two hybrid engine setups on this board are the same. From the installation, to the maintenance, to the modifications performed, every setup is different. To say that “x” motor is better than “y” motor simply cuz your bro put $hitloads of money into his setup that would make ANY motor scream, is illogical.
Personal Preference: To compare a b series non vtec motor to a b series vtec motor opinions excluded is tricky. Yes, in stock form the non vtec motor will generally have a torque curve that is more friendly to everyday driving where the vtec motor will have a hp curve more suitable for high rpm usage. And yes it is possible to get the best of both worlds with a “hybrid” setup. What too many people forget, though, is the “best” setup is relative to the owner of the vehicle. It does not really matter what someone else thinks about your setup, and if it does you need to check your ego. If you’re modifying your car for anyone else but yourself you’re a friggin poser. But on that same note of personal preference, don’t take your opinion of what is better and try and turn it into what is better because there is no better or worse when it comes to this. There are many ways to reach the finish line, regardless of the car or the race. IMHO the best thing anyone can do when looking to modfying their vehicle is to keep an open mind. As much as this is about what you want, you can learn alot from others’ previous experience and better understand what it is you really want from your car. However, when doing this. please follow the above guidelines, and remember that opinions are just that, opinions- and no matter how great you think one setup is from description, there’s always something you dont know about it that either isnt being said, or hasnt happened yet.
my  for the day- oh and ps for the love of God :search: every once in a while- i think im gonnna make a thread linking repetitive ?'s to the threads that best answer them. As much as I feel this shouldnt be necessary, it obviously is or else someof us will continue to “annoy” you with the search smiley.
