Making your own battery cables

does anyone know how i would go about making new battery cables? what length of wire would i need for the +. i see two wires on the stock wires. would i do the same. with building new wires?

Use your stock ones as a reference for length.

i was just wondering off hand. so i didnt have to take em apart. cuz i would like to go an buy the cables after work tonight. also would 4 gauge be a good size.

Why are you replacing the stock ones?:hmm:

i believe that is what the problem is. i have another post explaining the problem.

but it seems that the wires inside the insulation are corroded and causing the problem. when ever i tap the wire i see little particles are falling out.

Use some string to measure the lengths.

now i feel dumb. i should have thought of that.

the two wires coming off the terminal, one goes to the fuse box and one goes to the starter, right?

That is correct, one to the starter and one to the under hood fuse box.

Why not just replace it with a stock one?

What you have now is not stock and look what it got you, the type of batt. terminal you have, 2 bolts clamping a metal tab down on the cable(s) is a poor system.

At the very least get the type that has a “molded” clamp over the cable.

Most auto parts stores will have universal batt. cables, or hit up your local pick and pull or online sites for an OEM cable, it will have all the proper terminals and be the right length, it would save a lot of time and hassle. :think:94

That’s what I did.
My cable was corroded as well and I decided to replace the cable when I replaced the battery. I called Honda but apparently they discontinued it. I just went to the junkyard and pulled it off of an older Accord (as it seemed the most similar) as the cables from the tegs at the junkyard were all corroded as well.
