Now when I originally looked up this problem, I only had it when i’d come to a stop. But now, more often, when I press in the clutch pedal…the car idles down to where it shuts off. Has anyone else had this problem? It doesn’t do it so much when i press the brake pedal anymore.
Now note, since researching this problem, I’ve bled my cooling system seeing as that could be a cause for the issue and I also found out that idling up the car while the IACV is unplugged to 750 i think it was, would help. That idling up while the IACV was unplugged seemed to help immensely, until the last week or so. Anyone have any ideas? BTW the transmission is cable and not hydro, incase anyone may have thought i swapped to hydro transmission.
It also has a light weight flywheel, IF that has anything to do w/ the issues, which i highly doubt
Thanks in advance
could be the thrust bearing bro. sorry for the bad news :bye:
the car starts back up…i’ve never had an issue w/ the car starting, so i dont think it’s the thrust bearing…dont know if trolling or not. thanks tho
my bad i meant throwout bearing
It could be your distributor man. Sometimes the icm or ignition control module inside of it goes bad and causes the car to do what is happening to your car. So not that this is your problem but you can test the leads on the icm. There should be four but if there’s voltage and if there is at all four you can use a multimeter and see how many volts there is on each lead. But my brother had a civic that gradually did this until it just wouldn’t start. Took it in and the mechanic says it was a "pickup " in the distributor which we thought was the icm. try just a tune up if you haven’t already first though like cap rotor plugs and wires or you can run a couple of tests and see if any of those ignition components are causing this. Also look at your injectors and see if your getting fuel. May be clogged fuel line or egr valve. but that’s what I would do. I’m sure someone on here could tell you what to look for.
start by servicing the iacv it’s probaby dirty. i like to do it in vehicle by spraying carb cleaner into the iacv port at the throttle body with the engine running. work the throttle while doing this. it will exercise the iacv and work the cleaner into it. by doing it in vehicle, the port gets cleaned as well. an area of high carbon build up.
since you’ll have access here, you may as well service the throttle body while you’re at it. since it could very well be the cause as well. to do this just spray your carb cleaner at the throttle port and valve. you can do ths with engine running, working the throttle with your other hand. i like to start though with the engine off. use a bottle brush and scrub as much of the bore and valve as you can. then wash it all down with the cleaner and engine running
check all your grounds, all of them. My buddys 91 did this when he would come to a stop. Shouldnt be an egr valve as you can delte those with no consequence. Check iacv that helped my Friends for a week, we didnt take it off too clean it (bad idea) those two things would be the first I would check. let us know what you find out, good luck!
i’ll add a ground wire since i have one sitting around…but i’ll also try that spraying the iacv while it’s on the car, cuz it’s been cleaned multiple times with it off the car. this car also has a distributor from advance auto parts that’s been swapped out at least 3 times. i’d love to get my hands on an OEM …i’ve had problems for a while, but usually before it goes it sounds like a squirrel in my engine bay and i havent heard that too much. thanks for the ideas fellas.
Run down to your local pull a part and get an oem distributor I wouldnt run one ive had that many problems with let us know how everything goes!
wish i was this lucky to have a pull a part local…
swapped out the distributor yesterday w/ a new one from advanced (warrantied out again) …drove it all last night and today to work…hasnt shut off yet…i’m guessing it was the ICM in the distributor as was mentioned. either way it’s not shutting off at a stop anymore. just an FYI for anyone who may run across this problem and has gone through the procedures i have w/ failed attempts to solve the issue. thanks for the help guys
