Oh, and remember to fill the tranny when the car is level. You can just put the front on jackstands and then jack the rear up until it is level…

Should i fill from the fill plug from tranny on the side or from the speedometer cable location on top.

Fill it from the fill hole.
Here is what I do…
Get a length of plastic tubing, just big enough to fit into the hole and plug a funnel onto the top of it and pour it in that way. Keep a drain pan under there and fill until it comes out.

Yeah, it is a lot easier than those cheesy pumps that they sell for tranny fluid.
That way you can just slide the hole down through the engine bay and your good to go.

i just went to autozone and asked them for MTF and if they have anything graded SF or SG. they went to the computer to check for my car and it said just use 30 weight fluid. so i got this Coastal HD-30. would there be a difference on something like “10W”-30? whats the difference? would just using the 30 weight damage my tranny?

Hey B R can u give me a step by step on how to change my manual transmission fuild? Thanks alot

How bout you just goto the dealer and get the oil? Dont go cheap on your tranny :gun2:

after reading everything i did thought of getting it from the dealer but a lot of people use motor oil too. so i was just wondering if useing just 30 weight would damage it since i got it already. i’ll get the dealer stuff later on. i cant even take off the filler plug. maybe another try on that today. lucky i didnt drain it yet.

hey man, 10W-30 is just the range… if I remember the Honda manual correctly, it says use 10W-30 for normal temp. country (i.e. nominal temp. not exceeding 30 degrees celsius) while if u go 40 degrees then use 10W-40. I used 10W-50 and then went down to 10W-30 but so far no real difference. Though I do have some grinding but my clutch is wearing out badly so I think it is not helping. When I fix my clutch I’ll check my gear again and have a go at it!!

good luck

[B]No, you will be fine with 3 quarts. You only need about 2.3 quarts to fill it up at change.

Use Honda/Acura MTF. It costs more but you don’t change it very often and you don’t use much. My Y1 JDM cable tranny takes exactly 2 qts. (And I raise the drivers side higher than the passenger after removing the plug to get it all.) Here’s a nudder tip when changing your motor oil: After the pan is done dripping, unplug the breather hose from the air tube (the one that goes from the air tube to the valve cover), and blow into it 5-10 times hard and long. You’ll be suprised how much more oil comes shootin’ out the drain!
