I went to Acura today to find out the best grade of oil to use in my tranny and they said that they have manual tranny fluid but dunno what grade it is, i read up and found out the 10w40 grade is better if you run your car hard, I run my car pretty hard and like to use my VTEC, am i better off using a synthetic 10w40 or the acura fluid its the same price per liter. TIA
The manual transmission fluid is engine oil.I use 5w30 synthetic. If you get a grinding of the synchros the go to a 5w50 .Synthetic will save alot of wear and tear on the internals.
use the original honda mtf, not motor oil.
honda manual transmission fluid for honda manual transmissions… and motor oil for motors. easy.
Definately go with the Honda MTF over anything else. That is what I am running in mine and that is all that I will run in mine. It is specially formulated to work better than any normal oil.

That will make it a lot harder to get though your gears and make shifting feel like crap.

I remember when i changed my axles a while ago, there was no oil diping out ,so i replace the axles. I checked if i need oil from that thing ( cant remember the name) that speedometer cable that hooks up to the tranny, and i filled about half the bottle or gallon. Now i have a wierd noise when i reverse the car.

You should only have enough tranny fluid in there to make it start leaking from the fill hole. You probably have too much fluid in there.

Yeah, that is probably also what that noise is that your hearing. Get some Honda MTF and do a fluid change.
Make sure that your fluid is warm before you drain it though so all of it comes out.

You wont lose any fluid on the driver side because the intermediate shaft is what the axle goes into, and then the shaft goes into the tranny.
You should lose some fluid out the passenger side when you pull that axle out unless you jack up just that side of your car.

No, did both of them at the same time. I’m going to change my fluid tomorrow and i will post up if the noise don’t go away. Do the dealers only have the oil or they sell it at any autoparts store.
(my responds is slow and my connection is slow too)

Just the dealer as far as I know. Just make sure that you ask for the MTF when you go in. Honda and Acura will have the same stuff.
You do have a manual transmission, right??
If it is auto make sure to ask for the ATF…

No, tranny fluid costs more than normal oil. I think it is $4-5 per quart. Spendy, but at least you wont have to do it again for a long, long time.

B18A93
No, you will be fine with 3 quarts. You only need about 2.3 quarts to fill it up at change.

No problem, glad I could help out.
Oh, and remember to fill the tranny when the car is level. You can just put the front on jackstands and then jack the rear up until it is level…
