McFly's 90 DB1

What’s up G2IC! I have been waiting to start this thread and I think now is the right time to do it. I got my teg a little over two years ago. Picked her up for $250

I got hooked up with some free parts from ACT, I used to work on their servers and computers at their main offices here in Lancaster, CA. Got those installed right away along with my MOMO steering wheel that I have had for years.

Then we started working on some of the little leaks I had here and there, took her for a test drive and I spun some bearings. The car has been sitting my my garage since Feb of '09. Well the last few weeks my wife has been pushing me to either fix my car or get rid of it. So I sold some things to have some money to fix it up and started looking for parts. A couple days ago I stumbled on a CL ad for a B20B block, sent the guy a text and I picked it up yesterday. Got the block for $80.

I know the block is pretty dirty and cylinders and pistons are pretty rusty but do you guys think it will be OK, or will I have to replace them? Also I am supposed to be going to pick up a head from another B20B tomorrow and for free. So let me know what you guys think so far.

Nice pick up for 250

Thanks, I thought so too. I got it from an impound yard on a lien sale.

Also what head gasket would you guys suggest? I want to go B20/vtec in the future so should I just get a reg head gasket now and then get the GE B20/vtec head gasket after I get the vtec head or just get it now? Also if I got the gsr arp head studs now would then work for the b20/p75 head that I am getting for free tomorrow? Or will I have to get two set of ARP studs, one for the free head and then another set for the b20/vtec setup in the future?

Nice, I have a B20B non-vtec in my '91 DB1 and love it. Though I haven’t been able to fully feel the torque difference from the B18A1 because I’m still auto  Changing that soon hopefully. Car looks kinda rough as far as the body goes but it’s a good start!

i dont think you can use gsr head bolts on a non vtec head, thats why when people go ls vtec or b20/vtec they get gsr or b16 head bolts!!! dont qoute me on it though!!

nice pick up, love the trunk spoiler. G/L with the build

thanks, I like the spoiler too (read it is pretty rare also). I hope I am able to get the B20B in next weekend. Do you guys think the rust will cause a lot of problems? I am kind of worried about it.

pull the pistons, and hone the block defiantly dont want to leave it rusty. and you should look in to getting new rings and bearings while your at it.

Well yes I will pull the pistons and hone the block and change the rings, just have been worried if the pistons would be ok. Yeah you are right, I should get a bearing set also. I cant wait to start putting it in next week.

pistons should be fine once you get them cleaned up from the machine shop.

ok kool. Does anyone know which arp head stud kit I should get? The only ones I have been able to find for the B20 are if I am using a B16 head, kit 208-4306.

looks like they only make some for b20/vtec’s. you dont have stock head bolts for the moment??

No I dont. The guy I bought the block off of didn’t give them to me. All I have are the ones that are in my B18A1, will those work. Also I wasnt able to go pick up the free P75 head today =/. Hope he holds it for me and I am able to go get it soon.

p3f denotes the 8.8 compression b20b block, youve got a boost friendly block there.

I was kind of hoping for the phk pistons at first since they are rare but I like boost so I am glad I got the p3fs. I am looking to order some piston rings and was looking for some input. Would these do fine or should I look for a different brand/something better? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-01-HONDA-CR-V-VTEC-NPR-PISTON-RINGS-B20B-B20B4-B20Z-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d2c4115c3QQitemZ400174421443QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
