Mechanic's Gloves

im trying these ‘textured’ ones from harbor freight now. they are 50/pack and 6.99 i think, but he gave them to me for the 100/pack latex price (3.59?). well they are MUCH thicker, like dish washing gloves. i think this first pair will last almost forever. however, altho the inside is powdered, they will accumulate sweat much sooner, but im sure everyone is used to that by now. also they dont shred apart when in contact with oil like the latex ones.

one thing im worried about is how slippery they get when a lot of oil gets on em. is it me or do the latex ones seem to abosorb grease/grime (dirty oil) and not get slippery…

btw i still havent found the need to have have real mechanics gloves. when i need something thats heat resistant or heavy duty (lifting), i just use leather garden/construction gloves…

ok i got the sparco mechanics gloves from autobacs when they first opened, so its been about 3 months. they looked cool and i loved using them and only took them off when i was doing something real greasy, in which case i used the heavy textured latex ones.

they just recently started tearing at the index and middle finger tips from wear. oh well they were great while they lasted. i used them pretty often so i think they were worth the 12bucks (on sale, regular 19.99). even used em while welding and washed em several times. i think im gonna get another pair unless i find something that may last longer. it doesnt seem like those mechanix would last any longer unless the tips are super lined. they have a good collection of both at autobacs so ill see if theyre worth the extra cost.

i use the nitrile gloves, work great. we have tons of boxes of them in the shop at school so i just gaff a few here and there to use at home. i can usually re-use them though cause they are so tough. latex gloves suck

I use Mechanics brand gloves. the trick is to save your receipt and when they get worn out, tear a seam and make it look like it was a defect and take them back to be warranted. I have done it like 50 times without a problem. they are great but get dirty as hell and the fingers get worn out quickly. don’t wash them at home, take them to a Landry or something or your wife will kill you when grease gets on her new white shirts…

I used the Nitrile gloves when I worked at Ming as a rustproofer. The big advantage for me over the latex is that they don’t break down in solvent. Latex just starts falling apart if you’re washing parts or something in solvent, while nitrile holds up just fine. I assume they’re more expensive though.

I’m going to get some Mechanix gloves very soon though. My main reason for getting gloves is to reduce the number of cuts on my hands.

I use these medical polyurethane gloves, they work/last longer than the latex gloves I used to use… Plus i have an endless supply as my Dad’s a Nurse …
