I believe the best term to describe this product is Snake Oil…or maybe Elixer. This does absolutely NOTHING for any sort of haze/scratch on a clearcoat surface. I purchased this product thinking it may be some sort of very fine grit polishing compound. Infact, it has the consistancy of hand lotion and works about as well for scratch repair. I guess I’ll have to find a 3M dealer in my area…
so it sucks?? i was thinking of buying it but if it sucks nvm haha thanxs for the heads up…
I’d try some 3M medium and fine grit polishes if you’re looking to get scratches out. I’ve used the 3M products before and they’ve worked wonders. I just can’t seem to find any to purchase in my area. Make sure after you use the polish to use a good coat of wax on the polished area.
Products that say they remove scratches are bullshit. The only true way to remove a scratch is by buffing it out. Even then there is only a certain depth of scratch that can be buffed out.
I’m a professional detailer and I swear by Meguiar’s products. The stuff you can purchase in stores like Pepboys from Meguiar’s isn’t the best, since it is geared toward a general audience. Their professional products are amazing though.
My arsenal consists of #82 Mirror Glaze, #83 compound, #6 Professional cleaner wax, #21 Synthetic Sealant (amazing product) and the #26 Hi-Tech yellow wax. That is basically all I use to detail.
just use a very fine compound and an orbital buffer for light scratches…if they’re deeper use 1500 grit compound and an orbital buffer, basically wet sanding the spot, but don’t forget to follow that up with a polish and a sealer wax…
oh and at Mercedes, where I work, I detail every day and we use 100% Ardex products, which are much better than Meguiar’s professional after having experience with that on my own car…flammmme awayyy.
i used that stuff on my oxidized spoiler, i had to give it alot of elbow grease and about 5 applications but it actually did get rid of most of the oxidation. spoiler looks about 5 times better.
Get Meguiar’s REAL products and you won’t have a problem. You CANNOT remove scratches, period. You can only reduce them, and time is always a factor - if you want it done right, it isn’t going to happen fast. Meguiar’s Pro is good stuff, but as with everything, you have to use it right… Yes there’s better out there, but there’s nothing wrong with their stuff, and I’ve tried plenty.
I have also attempted to use this product on a few different cars, all with the same results. After testing out the product, it went into the trash. I am with the OP.

yup yup. Mix Meg professional products with a PC 7424 and you will be amazed.
I need to try the #21
How long would you say it lasts?
I just found an auto paint supply store that is an authorized Meguires dealer. They have a whole corner of their store filled with ONLY Meguires Professional products…I love that place.
yeah, this product sucks… i used it on my black paint…i guess it adds more swirls than it takes out… :hi5:
had an oxidizing CF hood before, and scratch-x worked great. just took alot of elbow grease…
Scratch-x worked great for me as well…fixed lots of oxidizing, swirls, and light scratches. Made my paint look like new again.
Ive seen the #26 yellow wax used before and results. I will say thats a damn good product there.
I will add to the Scratch-X being a good thing… removes all kinds of crud on the car… I have used it to remove everything from surface scratches to plastic marks (from door gaurds when someone door dings me) to spray paint (graffiti)…
My routine goes like this:
- Wash the car with a good car wash
- Use Scratch-X to remove “bad” blemishes.
- Use steps 1 & 2 of Meguire’s 3 step wax system.
- Finish with the Professional #26 yellow wax.
The #26 wax is killer and VERY easy to use by hand…
another +1 for scratch-x
yesterday used it on my cf hood that had some oxidizing from heat near the valve cover area. buffed it right out.
All you detailers out there should have a go at Griot’s products. I’ve found them to be consistently the best product I’ve used.
And I’ve used many.
Griots products are very good indeed… but they are more expensive and not as accessible as the Meguires products…
I have a shelf FULL of different products and such that I have tried… for the money and accessibility, it is hard to beat the Meguires products… especiallt their more professional line.
Edit: I shouldn’t post when tired…
Yeah, I will agree that some of the Griot’s stuff tends to be a bit expensive, but again, I’ve tried nearly every product they’ve got, and I really love their stuff.
I’m certainly not bad-mouthing Meguiar’s products though; their consumer stuff is great, and their professional stuff is exemplary.
I found a tube of Scratch X in my Teg when I bought it…so it works on oxidation? I have some on my fender, so I might try this
