Hi guys, I’m putting in an Mfactory clutch type (metal plate) LSD in my GSR YS1 trans. I understand I need to grind away at the bracing ribs on the transmission case in order to get it to fit.
But does anyone have any break-in experience with Mfactory LSD’s, as well as the type of fluid they run in the trans due to the clutch type lsd?
From what I’ve gathered from Mfactory:
“What you want is normal transmission fluid (Honda MTF, Torco MTF, Amsoil MTF etc), then add some Friction modifier only until the plate chatter stops (or reaches an acceptable level. Only you can determine this). You don’t want to add too much as this will start to affect the functionality of the synchros.”
I’m running Honda MTF right now, but last year after 1.5 hrs of track time, the transmission fluid overheated at Virginia International Raceway. I’d rather not run an oil cooler due to weight, so anyone have ideas?
happy corners,
Lots of honda racers swear by the GM synchromesh fluid with friction modifiers. Haven’t heard of a case where they affected the synchros adversely. I have heard of the OEM MTF fluid losing effectiveness in only a couple of thousand miles, which I can attest to.
There is a Southern Cali honda challenge racer who campaigns a DA. He is changing sponsors from Quaife to Mfactory. You can contact him on AIM under the name itaintegra. Just say you heard of him thru g2ic.com
Hi scratchymaster, I think that is Edik Stephanyan that your talking about, running a blue DA9 in H4 class. If so, I think he’s running the MFactory Helical LSD (like the integra Type R Torsen).
I’ll look into the GM fluid. I’ve got the LSD and trans installed, but now my clutch has rusted to the flywheel, and I need to break it loose.
Thanks for the reply,
-Andrew
your best bet would be to contact mfactory directly for any questions. i have their helical lsd and i contacted them through e-mail a couple times. very fast response usually within hours.
