Anyone ever use this? My rear bumper is like pink and i was thinking of painting it low budget with some rattle cans anyone ever use these or have any idea what the process should be for rattle canning a bumper?
ehh just prime it, paint it, clear coat it…cant be that hard
Blending the color to match is pretty difficult. I fixed up some rust on my rear wheel wells and used some milano red rattle can spray, but it was a darker red than the rest of my car.
Unless your bumper is a complete eye sore and you don’t mind it being a little off red than the rest of your car, don’t do it.
It won’t match at all so I wouldn’t worry about trying to “blend” it. You will see a color difference but I would prefer a different red than a pink bumper. If you do it make sure you sand into the existing paint with a fine grit like 180-220 so the paint adheres. I would also recommend self etching primer. Just use a bunch of light coats so you don’t have runs. Its not that hard to rattlecan. Just like any other paint, prep is the most important thing.
Don’t use 220 grit unless you want sand scratches in your paint to show up. Sand it with red scotchbrite pads then repaint. I wouldn’t sand with anything less then 320 grit if bodywork isn’t needed.
i used to bmx and i rattled canned my bikes lots of different colors, im just worried i guess about blending it i mean my car is still “red” but its a bit faded in some areas, but the back bumper is by far the worst, is there any specific way in painting plastic?
To sand the primer before painting the bumper, yes use a finer grit. I would say 400. For the existing paint on the bumper I would suggest 220. Thats just my opinion. You want to get the bumper down to base coat before painting over it so I would use 220 to get through the clear faster. Primer will fill all the sand scratches from 220.
