Mini's 91 RS Build

Wonder how much I learned from you… Haha
Yeah I think you’re overthinking too much…darn those overactive brain cells. I think you need to kill a few with some spirited driving !!!

Yes I still love doing this stuff, I don’t think I can ever stop !!! I just need another car to play with :frowning:

Duude, if you saw what I been building the last week, you’d freak out !!!

Well this thread kinda makes me want to keep my DA…maybe I’ll help her with her build by telling her the secrets from my build, lol
Overthinking is always soo annoying. Blame it on school. lol that always kills everything, thank god. Another car to play with eh…there is Mini fund ya know. haha And! just think about it. Its even more work to fly over here to help so this will last you forever! jk. What are you thinking about next? Secrets with mini!? Now…thats now allowed sir!
haha…

i bet… i know once i’m done with the current car… another G2 wil be in the works.

but lets whore in your thread and not jack her’s… LOL!!

More pics of the build please!!
Lol at least you guys made it sound more interesting  Mucho gracias. But pics will come up I’m hoping maybe tonight if things goes as planned which I haven’t been having luck with, with the past couple weeks. But hopefully today will be the end of it. Why must god torture me.

No I don’t have another car I’m building, well at least not mine since my Integra isn’t quite gone. Let’s just say the car I have been messing with has a really retarded power to weight ratio

Well if you were around here, I probably would have donated alot of parts aw well as set up your suspension for you on the condition I get to drive your car once in awhile  I let one of my friends that has a race M3 take my car for a ride and is exact words were…You gotta be crazy to get rid of this car !!! It handles better and is just as quick as my race car !!!

And I’m not keeping any secrets of my possible next build from you…just from the rest of G2IC

Well I hope the pics you post are good…kinda been antsy to see what you are hacking…err I mean rewiring the past few weeks

Since its more work for LD to fly over there to help… you might as well drive it over to chicago to hang out with everyone here…

Then you’ll see several of our projects.

Really clean! Like how we got matching cars! haha but yeah.

Don’t know if this question has been answered already but, it looks like the exhaust pipe runs down the driver side instead of the passenger side like how it does stock… Now, how does that work? Cuz that’s pretty sick.

It actualy runs under the fuel tank… if your car is too low… it will scrap

Mini: why did you go with the rsr set up? Should just run a custom set up where it stops under the car before the first bend.

Sweet. Now I might actually go with that.

Now, in california, you’re more and likely to get pulled over for not having a tail pipe. And ending the exhaust under the car is just hella noisy. (did no exhaust for a week, HATED IT! Everything rattled. Was worse than having your bass turned all the way up like a dumbass. LOL)

Okay…now your pushing it too far. Dont make me move out there. I’m pretty anal with the people that get to drive my car but I SUPPOSE…lol jk. Of course I’d let, if you can drive your DA you can drive mine which is like 1/25th of where yours is at. Your friend is smart good advice haha keep the car!!

Ahh…well then thats perfectly fine with me, you’re just going to have to tell me now. Are you going to eventually reveal this monster out of the cookie jar? or is it for self pleasure? lol

Hacking?! nice :frowning: hahah I’m the best hacker in the world err mean universe. mm I had to do a lot of uh messing around but I shall post up soon hopefully tonight if I have time. (Still have cost accounting crap thats going to take up most of my day)

haha that woud be pretty nice wouldn’t it. Never been to chicago either. Be there in…uh however long it takes to get there from here.

I know thats what I noticed when I looked at your build. It’ll come out nice. The blades look way better than the previous wheels. Shouldn’t I be saying this on your thread?

But no that question hasn’t been addressed yet. Until Mr Gs here, decided to light up the room with his knowledge haha. so there’s your answer.

yea it sits reallly low, I guess its a good way to keep me from dropping my car too low.

Sir: I chose this awhile ago when I got my first DA. I rode in my friends rx7 with an rsr set up and I loved it. Not, thinking about how an rx7 and DAs are totally different I chose the rsr set up. haha. This thing out of the box it the most obnoxious crazy loud exhaust I think I’ve ever heard. It literally was obnoxiously loud. But I love it now, after I put a silencer and two resignators on it. haha. I guess a plus for it is less restrictions with barely any bends at all. And I couldn’t stop under the car or emissions wouldn’t let me pass… Plus I don’t want to get rid of it because I spent so much on it…sad day.

Its actually not that bad at all… if you look in the vids section, you’ll hear how it is with my car…

My exhaust set up:
-2.5" header
-2 24" resonators

The dump tip from the resonator actually stopped before the first bend and it sound real nice. No rasp. Just a nice deep tone.

if i modified the exhaust system like that, i wouldnt want to get rid of it either. Thats actually a smart idea though… on my own DA… i went through at least 5 different exhaust setups… I would love to hear how it sounds with the resonators in place. That would be different

Mmm maybe you will someday! If not maybe I’ll have a recording or something but usually those don’t sound like they really do. I like it becaue it makes a deeper sound and doesn’t hit that high pitch honda sound.

Update

Okay so here’s finally an update. To those who I slightly told the story to this would probably clarify that too. So for the past… I would say 2 weeks I’ve been dicking around with this stupid tune set up. It shouldn’t have been this frustrating but for mini’s luck it sure was. Here’s the story of my life.

 1. I got my s300. Excited because then my car was getting tuned that weekend.

 2. Found out that from 88-91, oddly enough I’m sitting right at the cutoff date for obd1. So I had to run around to find the harness, ecu, distributor and plugs for that. Was lucky and found all that I needed within a couple days.

 3. Got s300 in ecu, made plugs for distributor.

 4. Tuner man here couldn’t fit me in the schedule.

 5. Found a day he could fit me in for a tune. So I pulled my ecu out put the harness in. Distributor didn’t fit. Found out the guy that sold me the “Ls obd1” distributor happened to be a vtec distributor. Thanks to Glynn, we talked previously about this and he actually went to see if the vtec one did mount up. It didn’t. So right when we put that distributor up, it sure was the wrong one. CL people are lairs! Found an LS housing in 15 mins. Picked it up, on the way back got a flat tire…… REALLY!!!. So came back late and couldn’t do the tune.

 6. On Monday morning, went in to switch the guts out of the distributor I had and put in the LS housing. Bolted that up to the motor. Car wouldn’t start. (mini’s luck AGAIN). Kept on messing around with it, the base map, advancing the distributor etc. No luck. Hours later of checking and re-checking work over and over again. Then decided to unbolt the whole distributor and advanced it to about 45 degrees counter clockwise and surprise. It started. Turned it back and it shut off. What to do…

 7. Called just about everyone we could think would have an idea what we could do and nothing came up but timing pretty much. So guess what, I picked up another distributor. Opened up the two to see if there was any difference. Nada. So we decided to just test things out. Pulled out that assembly piece where the sensors are on (I don’t know what it’s called) and switched it between the two. Put it back together, bolted it up on the car….I said a prayer and car started. That, was my Monday. Maybe I should’ve just said a prayer to begin with eh?

 8. Tuned the car today, finally. Didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. But overall it did well besides the hp gain :(. The car redlines at 8,000 instead of at 6,600 ish. My torque went up about 16 and the car runs much smoother. The sad part is my hp gain was only about 4. But I still haven’t gotten my cam gears timed yet. So I’m hoping to squeeze out another 5 with that.

 9. I am done with distributors. They are gay.

Here are some photos: always makes a thread more interesting right? Sorry they’re all cell phone pics. I forgot to charge the battery to my cam cam.

[ The first distributor ]

[ Don’t remember how many times I had to pull this stupid ecu out ]

[ Pulled out my stock ecu and found a new york towing sticker on it…??? ]

[ Pulling in ]

[ She is on ]

I am finally done with my stupid tests and I am heading to bed.

Jeez, that sounds like you had blast. I’m glad you got it all done though. Glynn told me the numbers, I wouldn’t be too disappointed at all. I bet that thing boogies! Sucks you can’t come out to High Plains with us on Sunday though :frowning:

8k redline B20 is makes me…

I did that once by disconnecting my Vtec solenoid… boy did that felt slow.

Great job on the progress. Hope to be seeing more pics up soon.

Im not even gonna try and catch up on the gabbing in this thread.

like I said last night, those are pretty impressive numbers, all things considered and reaching your desired N/A goal is very fessable with a little more money:up:

I vote you skip work on sunday and see how well you can put all that power down at the track :giggle:

Swapping guts from Vtec to non Vtec in terms as…sensors, coils, CPS? Well I’m glad you got it started though, woohoo !!! I hope you don’t feel bad about your HP numbers, Don’t worry too much about that since you do have a pretty much stock motor. I’m pretty happy for you so actually

Well since you’d let me drive your DA, I’ll let you drive mine for sure…I trust you not to wreck it…ummm yeah I do trust you not to wreck it, lol. As far as the new project, the new project may become the old project again. Just because you say so, I may have to keep my DA

both you guys making me want to build another DA and sell my current project…

trust me, you might eat those words:angel:

I dont remember if 0bd-1 distributors are made this way, but it the rotor is held in by a set screw, locktite it. I have had half a dozen fall out!

LOL, I sure hope you know more than I do on the build. I’m assuming it has headwork since the car is spinning at that high an RPM. Plus a straight B20 revving that high has no reason to be there unless it has some nice cams and nice flowing head to even make power that high…hmmm.

I was refering more to her driving and spinout skillzzzzz:D
