Modern exhaust systems

Hey guys/gals. I’m in the market for a catback system for my da, and I know the good old systems are hard to come by (HKS, sp2, rs*r,sebring) So I’m wondering what some of the new systems out there are worth lookin at? I got a HKS on my other da, but that’s being sold tomorrow and the exhaust on my current da is far too rusty/broken to be swapped…

I just got the tanabe touring medallion on my DB2 and I absolutely love it. I had the Greddy sp2 on my 1st DB2 and thought that would be a tough one to beat, but the tanabe has done it. It is super quiet and produces great power. I love it and would highly recommend it.

I put this tanabe on mine, nice quality. I like it because it still has the transversely mounted muffler, like stock. I think its the only one available still like this?

Yea that’s one I’ve been debating… its gonna be tough goin away from the HKS tho! Love that one…

What’s your take on the 3" thermal r&d turbo, but on a built NA…?

That Tanabe is awesome. I’m personally sporting the GReddy SP2. Since the SP2 is discontinued, I’ll be buying that Tanabe exhaust system for when it comes time to replace the SP2. It really is the best system readily available on the market today. I’d say go that route, personally.

People claim 3" is too big for a naturally aspirated motor. But, I’ve seen some built motors make great power with 3" systems. A stock, or mostly stock, motor won’t benefit from it. BUT, if you’re motor has had some serious work done, then a 3" system would be fine.

If you’re stock, just go with the Tanabe. Or, if it’s still available (not sure if it were even offered, honestly) go with the 2.5" version of the Thermal system.

Alright thanks. I was asking about the 3inch cuz my lsv I just got done building… its by no means a crazy ass build, but the only thing that’s original is the crank. So I was pondering the 3 for that…

But I might have to snag the tanabe… and I will eventually order another HKS, I’m just impatient…

i have a tanabe race medalen on my car since 1997 its loud but comes with a baffle at that time i tryed 4 systems that made the most hp

I have the thermal R&D 3inch full cat back looks great I’m pretty sure it’ll be a lil loud but I’m already use to it from my past exhaust. I haven’t gotten it on yet but in time I wil.

I just got off the phone with Tanabe and the Medallion Concept G is being discontinued for our cars :(…the only exhaust they will be making for G2’s now is the Medallion Touring!

What’s done to your car that ya need the 3inch?

And as for the tanabe… the only ones I’ve seen in stock online were the medallion touring…

Doing a K swap the 2.4 liters needs a good size piping and the 3inch works prefect. ATM I have 2.25 piping with a borla muffler sounds good not loud at all but you can hear the exhuast note that it’s not stock.

I have a Greddy SP2 for my DA. Was originally looking for an RSR at first and almost copped me one. Unfortunately I was too late. The Tanabe has similar design to the SP2 but I think the SP2 is slightly more appealing. I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with this exhaust. I’m looking for another catback as well for my crx but I’m going boost so it’ll be custom more than likely…

I’m going with a skunk2 once I get my funds together. Every Honda I have had has had a skunk2 on it. It’s the shit IMO.

On every chassis they make there exhaust for they fit perfect, it’s a little loud but worth it.

You will feel the power difference just from catback alone.

I like the fit of Skunk’s exhausts but I want to be able to buy an exhaust that isn’t so loud or one I have to use a silencer on just to get decent sound levels from.

My buddy has a skunk2 on his dc… sounds kinda cheap and raspy, IMO.

Anyways… I snagged another HKS =] love this system on our da’s
