So a few weeks ago I picked up a armrest with the cupholders. Now it was in good condition overall except the common broken halos. So I started to think of how I can modify it. So here a small write up dont have actuall pic of the process but I still have to do another one so when I do that one ill pots those up when I get there.
Heres what I used:
- Drill
- Drill bit (Any Size)
- Philips screw driver
- Side Cutters
- Dremel or Hole saw
First remove the cupholder part out so that it wont get broken in the process. I did to mine luckaly i was able to save mine. Remove it by taking four screws.
Remove these two screws so that the armrest and cupholder part will come apart from the rest of the assmebly.
After that then the cupholder and armrest should come out.
Now you have to remove these other two screws that hold the cupholder to the armrest. It has two screws at the bottom and two nuts on top. You could either use your fingers or use a socket or something.
Two Screws
Two Nuts
Now we start drilling small holes around the cupholders base so it can be removed. I didnt have access to a Hole saw so I did it this way. If you get a hole saw it will be so much easier.
If your using a drill bit just drill holes around the base like so in the pic below.
Once that done you can get some cutters and cut the parts that are left in between the holes. Sorry no pics of this step or the next one.
Now you can use the Dremel and smooth out edges that are left from the drilling and cuttin.
Finished product should look like this. You can now see inside the armrest and see how the cups will sit in.
Here are some pics of the finished product next to one that hasnt been cut out.
Now Install everything and enjoy. Hope this helps some of you guys.
