I want to paint my moldings back to black. They are currently color matched to the car and that’s really not my style.
So I want to paint them back to black with some Duplicolor trim paint and at the same time, shave the front plate holes in the bumper.
So has anyone painted there trim back to black, any advice?
I will be prepping it right, using adhesion promoter, etc.
I repainted mine black, although ithey were just black to begin with. I would say it’s the same process, just a little more sanding to get through the paint that’s on them, then paint and clear
I painted the mouldings on my old 300zx and it turned out pretty good. Just get some sandpaper and scuff up the old stuff so it won’t peel in a month, the get the bumper and trim paint from duplicolor. It looks the most like OEM when it’s done and you’ll hardly be able to tell that they are painted at all. It’s kind of a satin finish, not quite a flat black. Plus, the bumper paint sticks pretty well w/o primer, or they make a special flexible primer specifically for that paint and designed for plastic trim.
If you sand off the clear coat, you will not need to prime it. Just make sure you get through the clear coat. Sand it after (dont recall what grits to use) to make it look professional. I repainted my front bumper and it’s mint.
