Momo Steering Wheel Installation Instructions

Just installed my momo wheel in about 45 minutes for my 93 teg with cruise control. I’ll have pix of it soon! I decided to write out what i did for people who are interested. goodluck!

Momo Wheel Installation (92-93 w/ cruise control)
note: cruise control and horn will NOT work unless spliced into

  1. You need the following things: Momo Hub (For your specific car, not universal), the steering wheel, philips screw driver, and your stock lug nut wrench.
  2. Pop the center horn button off the wheel, you will see inside the nut that’s sitting there. IMPORTANT: mark with a pencil or thin pen which way is UP, DOWN, on the stud which is sticking out so you can see it. the stud/bolt that the nut is connected to. This is vital, so you won’t install the wheel sideways. see step 12 to see why.
  3. Put the wrench in, make sure it fits right. make sure your car is off btw, and if you honk the horn you will be shocked (like I was). So make sure you’re not pressing the horn while the metal is in there. Another Thing to avoid shock is to disconnect the battery cables.
  4. Turn counterclockwize slowly, and let the automatic wheel lock kick in so that it’ll hold the wheel so you can undo the bolt
  5. It’s gonna be a litle hard to do, but just slowly push on it, and don’t keep pushing harder, just sort of let it sit with the same amount of torque, it’ll give way.
  6. Pull the wheel towards you, it will be loose, but not all the way. There is a cable conencting it to the steering column
  7. there’s a small clip holding the connection. Push down closer to the tip of the white clip to unclip it. If you try pulling or pushing down somewhere else, it won’t come out. don’t foce it.
  8. Remove the plastic panels around the steering column by unscrewing two screws on the bottom left, and top left side of the plastic things. There is a ring that holds the two pieces at the “neck” together, just slide that off. Then the two pieces (top and bottom) snap off of each other. Keep the RING! don’t lose it
  9. you don’t necessarily need to pull these off, just pull them apart enough so you see three screws holding the swivling round thing to the steering column. remove three screws (should be black with phillips head)
  10. snap off the front piece from the rear piece, there are tabs holding it in. Just pry them off with fingers and push.
  11. You need the inner piece, the one connected still with the wires. The top piece comes off and is not used. Replace the two plastic pannels top and bottom. the two screws, and the ring.
  12. This is the tricky part, putting the hub on, on the RIGHT notch so that it’ll go straight. I used a lot of trial and error to get it in the right notch, but be sure to make sure you mark up and down with something so you’ll be able to get the hub on correctly, as well as the steering wheel. At first I started driving crooked cuz i was on the wrong notch, so i had to redo the hub install.
  13. Slide the hub on, so that it matches the marks you made. There should be an arrow pointing up that sez “Top” next to it. This may be the top, on some wheels, others it may not. My wheel the place that said top was actually not the top, because the holes on my wheel were different. (Momo Race wheel). So either the “Top” will be top, or else one of the holes will be the top.
  14. Put the lug nut thing back on, tighten it. torque is on the instructions that come with the hub.
  15. There is a large metal ring/washer thing, make sure you put the horn button in that first, with the sharp edge pointing towards you. Also there’s another small ring that goes over the horn button, you’ll see the groove.
  16. make sure the horn is straight, and then stick it from the back into the middle of the steering wheel. IF you have a cover that goes over this horn button, just put it on top. it will need to screw in all at once. the hub and the wheel both come with the ring, just use whichever.
  17. put the wheel on, make sure it’s positioned correctly so you will be driving straight
  18. use the screws provided with the steering wheel, rather than the hub, to secure the wheel, horn, etc to the hub. use the allen key included… with the hub. my steering wheel set didn’t come with the allen key. it’s the size 3 allen key.
  19. you’re pretty much done at this time. just test it out slowly in the parking lot or around the block. go straight and see if the wheel is straight, have your friend look, so you can concentrate on the road. Again, you will not have a horn nor cruise control unless you do the rerouting thing that is mentioned in the teg tips.
  20. DONE! if it doesn’t drive straight, take everything off and change the hub until it’s straight.
    GOODLUCK!
