ok… b20 is in and running very smooth (when it decides to start)… but i dont think there is any coolant flowing through the engine… the radiator hoses have no pressure and are easy to squeeze, and after about 3-4 minutes of running its already upto about 1/4 on the temp guage. im still wondering if i need to switch to the b18 thermostat housing and relocate the thermostat switch to the b20 block
serious question and only 10 people have looked at this for me??? come on now, i need some advice
The thermostat and the thermostat housing are not going to effect anything. That is unless the thermostat is stuck.
Does the upper radiator hose get warm after running for a while?? Does the lower radiator hose warm up?? Does it actually overheat, or get close to the red??
If the upper hose gets hot and the lower one doesnt, you most likely have a thermostat that is stuck closed.
If both hoses stay cool after a few minutes of running, it could be alright or your thermostat is stuck open (but that rarely happens).
If it doesnt overheat and it runs fine, I would assume that it is running fine.
Give me some more info and I can help you out a little more.

well i let it run for about 5 minutes and it didnt get past 1/4 on the guage… the upper hose got slightly warmer, but not by much…maybe im just worrying too much…i have some white smoke coming out near the exhaust manifold, but i think i am just burning off some coolant that was leaking earlier. i also only have 2 bolts holding the exhaust manifold together.
should the radiator hoses be pressurized???
just took it for its first drive…it seems to run fine…but i still dont know if its running hot, the stupid temp guage is doing the weirdest thing…everytime i hit the brakes, it goes passed the red, when i let off- it goes back down to around 1/4-1/2…
I would assume that it is running fine then if it drives right and the temp stays down when your not pushing the brakes. I think you have a wiring problem where your sensor is getting a voltage surge when the brakes are pushed causing it to spike like that.
The fun part is tracking down where the wiring is messed up. Or maybe you just have a bad temp sensor. You could take the one off of your b18a if you still have it and put it on the b20. I am 99% sure that they are the same.

where is the temp sensor??.. and i need to know if the radiator hoses should be pressurized. as of right now i still cant feel any coolant flowing through them, but maybe thats how it should be.
You need to swap the sensors at the back of your LS block onto the B20 and wire it appropriately. Your ECU doesn’t know what the hell is going on. If you ask Oregon member Devin, he has the B20 that I put into his 90 Teg. Maybe he’ll take a picture of the back of the block for you. Best of luck.
the only thing that changed was the thermostat switch…where the green plug connects too on the back of the block…this is now connected to the thermostat switch on the thermostat housing for the b20…do you think i should put that on the b20 block and change to the b18 thermo housing??? everything else is wired up properly i think
ok i just talked with JonsteR and he said that he kept the b20 thermostat housing. now his car is a 92 which is OBD-1 right?? would this make a difference anyway? im not sure if the thermostat housing on a 92-93 has the thermostat switch on it or if it is on the block like the 90-91
