i bought this universal triple pillar pod from glowshift on ebay but it didn’t come with any mounting hardware or instructions. how are you guys mounting them?
There’s several methods.
Adhesive.
Screws.
Clips.
Heavy modding.
By heavy modding I mean fiberglassing it into your stock dash/pillars etc. Fiberglassing or otherwise molding them into your panels will give you the cleanest look, and the most stable and permanent mount. Downside is, if you fuck up your panels that’s it, it’s fucked up. I’ve never installed any gauge pods on pillars before but I believe I’ve seen some that have clips that grab on to your stock panel to hold it in place. I would try to google the manufacturer and see if you can find anyone that solved this problem on another forum, or possibly a hardware kit. I hope this helped.
fiberglass!
never thought off using fiberglass to mold something. is there a special kind? how about paint? i just happen to have two panels. thanks for the info!
Fiberglassing is more commonly done on sound systems. I’m sure you’ve seen custom boxes that have been fiberglassed to create a unique and stylish look, or to mold it to the interior to make it look like OEM.
If you want to try it, do a lot of research on the processes involved. Make sure you fiberglass something similar first though as a test to see how it comes out. Never try the real thing until you know you can do it right the first time. Also, remember that it can be labor intensive especially when you have to sand it, god I hate that shit especially if you don’t have access to a power sander. If you do it right it looks sexy as shit though…
I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a lot of free time and especially patience. You can also have a local fiberglass professional do it for you too, and it will probably be cheaper than purchasing all of the tools and products you need to do it yourself. Up to you bro, but either way good luck!
how is the fitment of that pod set up i was looking into them i have a ek gauge pod i think i may just cut it to fit?
Easiest way is to put a thin sheet of foam underneath the pods then just screw it into the panel and call it a day. The foam is there to prevent squeaking down the line…
Why waste your time with all the fiberglass bullshit… well unless you’re a baller and into car shows and shit like that…
I can’t say I completely agree, but it’s still true what he says about if you don’t care about it looking slick, then don’t do it. Like I said before, it’s a PITA to do it. If you are building your car purely to race then I wouldn’t bother getting complicated. Let us know what you do and how it goes.
