i’m just wondering what the difference between the MSD 6a and the MSD SCI ??
i know there’s a big difference in price, but in function, really, whats the difference?
Not to be a dick, but why are you looking into new ignition setups? Unless you’re boosting or on the bottle, your stock ignition will work fine.
LOL, i’m gonna be boosting in the future, just buying components as i come across a good deal… in this case, i am getting a MSD 6a with blaster coil 2 for $100
but the reason i asked is i was talking to one of my friends and he told me he’s getting a MSD SCI, and as far as i know, theres no functionality difference between that and the 6a… and i told him he should get the 6a cuz of price differences.
i just wanted to find out if anyone has experience with these ignitions.
Yeah, the SCI and 6a are the same, it’s just a marketing thing so they can charge more money.
I think the SCI is made for imports, and I have only heard bad things from people that tried the 6A.
:burnout:
late…
hmm. i have a friend with a 6a on his mustang… its disconnected right now. i feel like borrowing it from him and trying it on my teg…
I have the MSD 6AL and everything has been working great. You will feel a better start and acceleration will feel smoother.
Also I forgot to add…MSD told me there is not a damn difference between the two except for the logo.

Change your word “made” to ‘marketed’ and then delete everything after the comma punctuation. Then you’ll have your true answer.
I know a dozen people using the MSD 6A series ignition, myself included - none of which have had any problems at all. Just don’t expect it to be a power adder.
i got the msd 6a ignition on my car with an external blaster coil and distributor cap wit the wires… anyway i like it alot, i got it with an automatic and i noticed after installing it that when ur on the gas and lets say ur going like 30 and it shifts to the lowest geer (if its in S3, S3) and then u slam on the gas again it kicks down to 2nd much faster, and in the cold weather it starts much nicer…overall im happy with it, and it only cost me about 240or something along those lines from summitracing.
Well, I just got a MSD 6A, with 2 MSD SS Blasters.( I will only use 1, sale the other) as a present. I was planning on getting the cap and rotor, with cables. However after reading a lot about this I’m worried that this will be over kill. I run a LS motor with Headers, Intake Fuel Pressure Regulator, Exhaust,. But no Turbo and NO Nos. Do you guys reccommend using this, or am I looking for problems installing this?
I was considering upgrading all that stuff too, but after reading all the threads in this forum regarding aftermarket ignition upgrades, it sounds like overkill to me.
I have your setup plus 403 cams, pnp head, port matched intake, oversized pistons, and upgraded fuel system. I’ll be sticking to OEM ignition parts.
ok umm there is a diff between the 6a and the SCI. The SCI has a revlimter that is adjustable by 100 RPM increments via a rotary dial, 6a uses chips to set revlimter. Also the SCI has a ignition retard feature so u can hook it to a nitrous system and when u arm it the ignition is retarted to ur setting but when not armed its back to stock or ur seting of base timing. The SCI and the Digital 6 are the units that are the same not the 6a. I have the digital 6 unit and man the features are great also the Digital 6 and SCI have a 2 step laurnch control built in. The SCI will work high in the rev range to 12500rpms while the digital 6 only to 9500 rpms, and amp draw is slightly diff

hey i got the msd 6al ignition and it rocks very torquey good set up my buddy got the 6a and is also very happy with it. it is up to you.
Your thinkin of the SCI-L that has the rev limiter, the plain old SCI and 6a are the same thing like stated above.
