Hey guys just wanted to get some feedback about msd modified cap… I have a msd 6a box (not installed), and I was thinking about upgrading my ignition system with external coil and new cap. I have new wires and plugs, but i think my car might benefit from a whole new ignition system. I hear tho that the distributor on the b16a is weak, and that msd setup would fry it pretty fast… here is my setup…
b16a w ITR cams, valves, crower retainers, CTR pistons, ported and slightly milled head…
OEM 93 accord has cap with external post… its better quality i would imagine than the msd unit… i’ve recently thought about doin external coil but never got around to it…if and when u do please post pics on wiring the coil …
accord cap will only work on 92-93 vtec integras. it may work on the 92-93 non-vtec ones but i have never tried. it definitely wont work on the 90-91s for sure though.
yes it is definately worth it. As a matter of fact, you will HEAR the difference. Put it to you this way: at around 5000 rpm your stock spark produces more ozone than spark and it’s as thin as a strand of hair. The MSD spark is about as thick as 1/3 of your pinkie finger nail. Basically the msd spark will keep a constant 500 volts throughout your powerband while your stock spark will barely be there after about 4000-5000 rpms. Trust me its worth every penny.
people run stock ignition even with upto 300+ whp. if you plan on staying all-motor or not run very high compression, it will be better to spend your money elsewhere.
Modified Distributor Caps for HONDA/ACURA Vehicles
Professional race engine builders have known for a long time that the only way to produce maximum horsepower from a Honda or Acura engine is to get rid of the weak coil mounted inside the cap. MSD’s new Honda and Acura Modified Distributor Caps are specially constructed to allow the use of an external coil such as an MSD Blaster Series Coil. Each cap is specially fitted with an MSD Power Tower to accept a high voltage coil wire.
I had a crane cams ignition with the external coil and had so many problems with my distributor that I gave the stupid thing away. My car pulled harder with the ignition but it wasn’t worth the headaches it gave me.
I wired the Msd into my Civic and the car only had less tha 18,000 on it, and never had a problem till i wrecked and that was at 34000. So that’s 16,000 miles of trouble free ignition, but it was an MSd so I guess if you go witha company that Specializes in what they make, you can get a better quality item. Instead of a company that tries to carry several lines of stuff.
hey u are bidding on my b16a intake manifold on ebay! anyway I can hook you up if you want to settle this outside of ebay… what setup did you have… ( as far as the msd)?
