hey yall i was wanting to change up my spark plug wires and i was wondering what the difference is between msd or acccel both in 8.5mm, the help would b great. it seems like through my search that everyone is down with stock y? isnt there to much resistence in those for performace to occur iunno.
I’d love to see a dynochart comparing new OEM wires and $100 aftermarket wires.
:werd:
That would settle this dispute once and for all. The bottom line is that NGK Blues are about the best wires you can run on your car assuming you don’t have a modified electrical system (and perhaps even if you do).
I have heard many stories of aftermarket wires failing and having short lifespans, yet I’ve never heard those stories about the NGKs, and I certainly don’t think they’ll limit your performance.
Who knows though… I’m sure there are those here who know more than I
I doubt you will ever see a noticable HP gain from a larger core wire, but you MAY, I reiterate may, see a torque gain however so slight. A good set of wires without the ignition/coil to back it up will do nothing for you accept dress up your engine bay
There is an article from TPR (Apr. 2004) which they tested 6 different spark plug wires on a Turbo B16 (Stock except for a Drag Turbo system)… here’s the cliff notes…
Honda Oem (230.6hp)
Accel 300plus ThunderSport Ferro (232.4hp)
Magnecor KV85 (231.4hp)
Moroso Blue Max (232.1hp)
MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Black Spark Plug Wires (234.4hp)
NGK Blue Power Cables (233.3hp)
Vitek Performance Ignition Wires (229.3hp)
using an aftermarket ignition?
same thing i was wondering, is it with all stock ignition except obviously the wires, or all the aftermarket ignition done to it?
According to the article, all stock ignition, timing at 14degrees, and new BKR7E spark plugs…
Here’s the resistance (KOhms) Wire :1,2,3,4
Honda OEM
12.48,8.9.10.22,6.77
Accel
0.41,0.34,0.30,0.32
Magnecor
5.05,4.44,3.67,2.81
Moroso
1.95,1.77,1.43,1.61
MSD
0.12,0.08,0.07,0.05
NGK
0.68,0.59,0.53,0.40
Vitek
5.46,4.05,2.50,2.77
Looks like the MSD’s are the best, not sure if they’re the best bang for the buck tho…I’ll stick with my NGK’s (best fit)
