hey guys, today on my way back to my house as i was accelerating from a stop sign my car just stopped running, nothing, didnt start back up. i got it home and i cant figure out what the problem is, i have fuel, i checked the ignition coil according to the manual and the resistances seem to be in the correct range, my cap and rotor do look a bit corroded but would that cause my car to stop running without any warning? any help would be great, thanks!
Sounds like your Timing belt snapped,
I’m not sure of the easiest way to check. I would take off the valve cover
oh yeah, i did take off valve cover and it looked good
and it does crank so not alternator
my ignition coil gave me a false reading when it went, see if you can trade out a good one and double check it.
There is also a thread at the top of this forum for “Car won’t start” problems :squint:
theres more than just an ignition coil that won’t let the car start.
maybe…ignitor…
well i got my new igniter, installed it according to directions… and guess what? still no start! any help would be awesome, thanks
bump ^^^
Are you sure the Timing belt is good and the cams are in time?
Do you hear the fuel pump run when you first turn on the key?
Is there spark at the plugs when the engine is turning over?
Do you here main fuel relay click?( it is under the dash drivers side)
timing belt is good
there is fuel
i hear main fuel relay
i dont know how to make sure the cams are lined up
and ill go check for spark, thanks
some more updates:
im not exactly how to check for spark but i had someone crank the engine while i held the spark plug against a bolt to hopefully ground it, i ididnt see any spark but that may not mean too much because i could have been doing it wrong
as for timing here is a pic:

i donnt know much about timing but it looks like thats lined up enough to make it run
i also tried checking the CEL to see if there were any stored codes, when i juped it and turned it to the ON position all i got was a solid CEL does that mean that there are no codes or does it mean that my ECU is fried?
Interested to find out your problem. Mine did the same thing. It was towed away, and when they went to work on it the nexy day, it was ok.So did the rough ride from the tow truck do something??? Good luck, and post when you locate the problem.
i may be a little off but try tapping the main fuel relay a little see if it does anything while starting it… it’s under the driver side panel…
im pretty sure its not the main fuel relay because it has never had trouble starting in the past and i did try your tip of tapping it but it didnt work, thanks anyway
by the way, could it still possibly be my coil even if the resistances were in spec?
yes.
The way that you checked for spark is a good test. You should have been able to see a spark. As you HAD NO SPARK that is where you shoud be looking. Do you have a spare distributor? If not you are going to have to check to see what is wrong. Like spikeymike said there are many things in there to fail. (igniter, coil, rotor, rotor cap)

well i got my new igniter, installed it according to directions… and guess what? still no start! any help would be awesome, thanks
well i baught a new
-igniter
-rotor
-cap
i guess im off to buy a coil
just replaced the coil and it runs!!! woot! anyway the lesson here is…
even though the coils resistances are within spec, it may still be bad
Good find. I am glad that your car is back on the road.
like i said…glad you are back on the road!
